District may seek bond issue for $8.47 million in upgrades - mlive.com: "The district is finishing up $4.2 million in improvements to security, technology -- including computers, video equipment and a phone system -- and transportation. The improvements are financed by a 0.65-mill, 10-year tax hike approved by voters in 2005.
At that same time, voters approved a 1-mill, 10-year sinking fund for about $10 million in capital improvements, such as roofs, boilers and parking lots.
Babbitt said there are still upgrades and enhancements that are needed. They include safety and security, such as more security cameras and keyless entry doors; buses; technology upgrades; a new performing arts classroom at the middle school; and at the high school, modernizing and expanding the 50-year-old main gymnasium, and installing artificial turf at the stadium.
These improvements could be done without asking voters to approve a bond, but would put immense pressure on the general fund, and couldn't be done without 'dramatic' cuts to programs, he said."
