Ficano could present plan today for over-budget Wayne County jail project | The Detroit News:
"Detroit— Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano could present a plan Wednesday on what to do with an over-budget jail whose construction delays are costing taxpayers about $500,000 per week.
Ficano’s aides are scheduled to meet with county commissioners at 2 p.m. to lay out options, two months to the day after he imposed a 60-day work stoppage on the project at Gratiot and Madison.
County officials have spent about $120 million on the project so far.
Ficano stopped work June 6 after contractors estimated the 2,000-bed facility would cost $391 million, 30 percent more than budgeted. "
