Public transportation fail ---Detroit bus riders warned of possible slowdown as drivers plan Monday protest

Detroit bus riders warned of possible slowdown as drivers plan Monday protest | Detroit Free Press | freep.com:
"Detroit Department of Transportation and city officials are warning residents of a potential slowdown in the city’s bus service Monday as drivers rally to protest what they call deplorable conditions on city bus lines.

“We’re asking (drivers) not to do anything that could affect service,” said Gary Brown, the city’s chief operating officer.
“We’re trying to prepare anybody who would be riding the bus on Monday.”
Bus riders have complained for years about buses being late, buses breaking down and rude drivers.

Fred Westbrook, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 26, said drivers are fed up with the lack of support from the city as they deal with violent acts at the hands of some riders.
