Part 2-Detroit mayor's biggest problem? The residents who just don't care

Rochelle Riley: Detroit mayor's biggest problem? The residents who just don't care | Detroit Free Press | freep.com:
"Detroit’s new mayor may think his biggest problem is a possible bankruptcy, a fleeing tax base or crime.
But he would be wrong.
Its biggest problem was evident all day Tuesday in the basement of the Refuge Cathedral on the city’s east side.
That was where 25-year-old April Stephens sat for 11 hours, waiting for voters.
The church off Gratiot, six miles from downtown, is home to Precinct 109, which Stephens has staffed since she was 16.
It has only two registered voters.
And by 7 p.m., neither had showed.
So Stephens spent Election Day like the Maytag repairman in the old commercial, waiting for someone — anyone — to need her."

I am proud to be a longtime Detroiter who voted. I voted despite the fact that my mayoral choices were the guy from the inept and corrupt Wayne county gov.'t or the guy from the I. and C. Wayne county gov.'t. I voted despite the fact that council by district LIMITED my council vote to THREE choices from my previous NINE, and that my district council rep will have no say in city departments. I voted despite the fact that the governor has appointed a dictator for the time being and NO-ONE I vote for will have any real power till I dunno when.

Good for you Anon,
I vote with the same trepidation. What miserable choices we have!
