According to recently released data from the Energy Information Administration, the Great American Energy Boom set another milestone in 2013 as “net oil imports” fell to a 28-year low of 33.2%, the lowest level since 1985. The surge in domestic crude oil production from shale formations in recent years, along with a decrease in crude oil imports, has brought about an amazing turnaround in America’s reliance on foreign sources of oil, and the chart above captures that turnaround graphically.
