City of Flint wants councilman to pay the cost of his own prosecution in drunken driving case

City of Flint wants councilman to pay the cost of his own prosecution in drunken driving case | MLive.com: "FLINT, MI -- The city wants Councilman Eric Mays to pay the cost of his own prosecution -- more than $13,000 -- in his impaired driving case.
Special Prosecutor Michael Gildner is asking Flint District Court Judge Nathaniel Perry to assess the attorney fees when he sentences Mays for the misdemeanor on Friday, Aug. 15.
Mays called the request "sour grapes," but Gildner said it was the result of the councilman's "antics and long-windedness" in court and his refusal to accept offers to settle the case.
"By statute, we are allowed cost recovery in drunken driving cases," Gildner said.
"We've asked for that (in this case). It's something I do in every one of my cases."
Mays was charged with five misdemeanors in relation to a Nov. 30 arrest when police said they witnessed him outside a disabled car, which was facing the wrong way on Interstate 475 at about 3 a.m."
