Advocacy group's report indicates more than half of Muskegon County's young children live in poverty | MLive.com:
"MUSKEGON, MI — The Muskegon community and lawmakers statewide must work harder and enact policies to improve the quality of life for the region's underserved children and their families, according to an advocacy group.
Recent data from the American Community Survey, an ongoing statistical survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, indicates that 8,300 of the region's young kids, or 62 percent of the area's children ages 0-5, lived below 200 percent of the federal poverty level during 2008-2012.
The number is equivalent to about $47,000 for a household of four people."
