This week 74 years ago...
The Milwaukee Clipper began the first of 36 consecutive years of passenger and freight service between Milwaukee and Muskegon on the eve of World War II. She would add regular stops in Chicago to her wartime itinerary.
On June 3, 1941 The Chronicle said,
ENTHUSIASTIC THRONG GREETS CLIPPER ON MAIDEN VOYAGE
Muskegon extended a noisy and enthusiastic welcome to the million dollar streamlined Milwaukee Clipper of the Wisconsin & Michigan Steamship Company as she docked at The Mart at 8 a.m. today on her maiden voyage that marks a new era in lake transportation.
