"A coalition of unions announced it is seeking signatures to place a proposal on Michigan's November ballot that would hike the state's corporate tax by 5 percentage points to raise money for road and bridge improvements.
Citizens for Fair Taxes announced the initiative Thursday in several cities, saying Michigan families are shouldering too much of the state's tax burden.
It would increase the state's corporate tax from 6 percent to 11 percent.
The coalition, which includes the Michigan Labor District Council, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights and Operating Engineers, says the proposal would "recoup about $900 million" from past corporate tax cuts.
