GRCC approves domestic partner benefits despite concerns | MLive.com:
"GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Grand Rapids Community College in January will begin offering health care benefits to the domestic partners of unmarried employees.
The move was approved by the college's board of trustees at the recommendation of President Steven Ender, who has said providing the benefits would show the college believes in "inclusiveness."
All but one of the board's seven trustees – Richard Stewart – supported the measure.
To qualify for the benefit, an employee and his or her domestic partner must, among other things, be in a committed relationship, financially dependent upon one other, have lived together for the past 18 months and not be related.
An employee would be required to sign an affidavit testifying to those facts..."
