MICHIGAN - A Michigan university that gained international attention through an admitted publicity stunt that annually banishes words when they become overused is not out to gain the same notoriety with its latest move.
But Lake Superior State University, a 2,000-student college in Sault Ste. Marie, will certainly take the word of mouth generated by a recent announcement that its classes won't begin before 9 a.m.
The change, which will begin in the 2016 fall semester, ends 8 a.m. classes college students have long dreaded.
And it's not because of a need for extra sleep or an additional hour to shake off the night before.
"It wasn't, it isn't, a marketing effort," said Thomas Pink, the university's director of public relations. "This was a thoughtful process of trying to find a common hour on campus when groups can meet or staff can hold meetings."...
