DETROIT, MI -- ...But some Metro Detroiters looking to choose a candidate before the March 8 primary are in no mood to be entertained Thursday.
Detroit is in the middle of a grueling battle to recover from rock-bottom calamity of historic proportions.
And Thursday's debate at the Fox Theatre in the heart of Downtown Detroit comes days before a another presidential forum in the only other U.S. city that has faced comparable levels of poverty, violence, economic stagnancy and educational struggle: Flint.
...Rev. Oscar King III, on the other hand, supports none of the candidates who will be on stage Thursday, but has just as little patience for unsubstantial debate.
..."To come to the city of Detroit, I think is just a show, and I'm not sure they're going to gain anything from it... Republicans for years have pretended the city of Detroit did not exist."
...But King argued that much of the improvement and economic development Detroit is seeing has been limited to the city's central Downtown and Midtown areas.
"The rest of the community, we consider stranded development," King said.
"If they're looking to change hearts and minds out in the greater Detroit community, I hope great is their faith...
"With the changes in the demographics of Downtown, moving from black to white, maybe that's the new treasure trove for them, but the folks in the communities have little rapport or connection with the Republican Party...
The improvement in the city of Detroit is divided among too groups.
The perception is that some people are included in everything, and others are left out..."
