"COLUMBIA, S.C. – A South Carolina elementary school recently canceled an upcoming Father-Daughter Dance because some parents complained it was not “inclusive” enough.
A flyer for the dance – which has raised $2,000 for the PTO in the last five years – clearly states all are welcome to attend, but “there were a few parents that did not think the father-daughter dance was inclusive, when actually, it was at all times,” Richland One School District spokeswoman Karen York told the news site.
“It was never an event that was exclusive only to fathers and daughters,” she said. “Mothers and anyone else who wanted to show up at the dance were certainly welcome to attend.”
...WIS posted an informal poll on its website asking viewers to weigh in on the issue.
“Based on the facts at hand, do you think this father-daughter dance should have been canceled?” the poll questions.
In total, 93 percent of respondents voted “No,” while only 5 percent voted “yes.” Two percent voted “I don’t know....”
