N.J. bill may ban eating, drinking, reading while driving - NY Daily News:
"Sipping coffee while behind the wheel in New Jersey could soon land you in hot water, if a proposed bill is approved.
The bill from Assemblyman John Wisniewski would bar motorists from “distracted driving,” defined as “any activity unrelated to the actual operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that interferes with the safe operation of the vehicle.”
The loosely worded bill aims to combat texting while driving — already illegal in New Jersey — but also seeks to fine motorists who eat, drink, groom or read behind the wheel, NJ.com reported.
Violators would face fines as high as $400 for a first offense and $600 for a second. More transgressions could lead to a 90-day license suspension and driving record points."
