Whistleblower Chelsea Manning will be released from prison next week.
In one of his final moves as president, Barack Obama commuted Manning’s sentence. ...She was sentenced to 35 years in prison after being convicted in 2013 of stealing 750,000 pages of documents and videos from the US government and military.
At the time, she was a male, and her name was Bradley Manning.
After taking the government’s coveted documents, Manning leaked them to the whistleblower website WikiLeaks.
The government and those on the political right were outraged that a person dared show proof of military crimes committed with American tax dollars, and labeled her a traitor while making fun of her for her transgenderism (gender dysmorphia)..."
