"Pvt. Chelsea Manning, the transgender soldier convicted of releasing thousands of top secret documents to WikiLeaks, will remain an active-duty soldier after being released from military prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, on Wednesday, USA Today reported.
While Manning's court martial is under review, she will be on active duty, meaning that she is eligible for health care and benefits.
Manning's 35-year sentence was commuted by President Obama during the final days of his presidency.
“Pvt. Manning is statutorily entitled to medical care while on excess leave in an active-duty status, pending final appellate review,” said Army spokesperson Dave Foster.
Just like all soldiers, Manning will be assigned to an Army post, but it remains unclear to whom she will report.
Manning was released six years before she was eligible for parole..."
