Wednesday afternoon links - AEI:
"1. Chart of the Day I (above) shows the amazing “Digital Music Takeover” of recorded music sales, based on new mid-year data for 2017 from the Recording Industry Association of America.
As recently as 2003, physical format recordings (CD, LPs, DVDs, etc.) were 100% of recorded music sales.
In 2004, digital music was in its infancy and captured just 1.5% of recorded music sales.
Since then digital music formats have become increasingly popular, and for recorded music sales in the first six months of 2017, digital music captured a record-high market share 84%.
I’m pretty sure we can expect that trend to continue, as CD and LP sales continue to decline as a share of recorded music sales and digital music continues to gain market share."
