Layoffs among $2.9M in cuts to Muskegon County 2018 budget | MLive.com
"MUSKEGON, MI - Muskegon County's Child Care Fund, public health department, Sobriety Court and public defender's office will receive major budget cuts in fiscal year 2018.
Image result for thatcher socialism quoteThe cuts were included in several budget amendments recently approved by the Muskegon County Board of Commissioners.
Many of the cuts were made in response to the failure of a millage (GIANT TAX INCREASE) request to support youth and family criminal justice services. 
Voters rejected the Youth-Family millage by an overwhelming majority in November.
County Administrator Mark Eisenbarth and budget director Beth Dick said prior to the election that the adopted 2018 budget was created assuming the millage would pass.
Now, Eisenbarth and county officials are hoping to offset the loss and save money by cutting $2.9 million from the adopted 2018 budget. 
Some of those cuts will include staff layoffs, Eisenbarth said.
Another $1.4 million in existing funds will be moved around to offset other imbalances. 
At least $550,000 in new revenue officials are counting on will be allocated to departments receiving major cuts as officials work out the county's financial future..."
