"...Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) is proposing that most Americans help pay the high rent of others.
She says that people who pay 30% or more of their income on rent should receive help on those payments from those of us who own homes.
Last week, Harris tweeted:
“Nationally, over 21M Americans spend more than 30% of their paychecks on rent. That’s absurd.”“I introduced the #RentReliefAct to help ease the burden. This equals more money in people’s pockets at the end of the year.”
Her Rent Relief Act states that for anyone earning less than $100,000 a year who pays at least 30% of their income on rent (including utilities), would receive a tax credit at the end of the year.
There is a caveat to the act that states that those people living in areas that are more expensive can make up to $125,000 a year and still receive the tax credit at the end of the year..."
