"Electric power grids in the U.S. employ 867 megawatt hours of storage capacity in the form of lithium ion batteries, which are used mostly to store reserve energy from renewable sources. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the hourly demand for electricity in the country on March 6 was 549,799 megawatt hours.
That means the amount of electric grid battery storage in the U.S. was enough to meet the nation’s electricity needs for 5.3 seconds."
