"If you want to know what a socialized medicine system (Medicare for All) would look like, look at the education establishment:
- The bureaucracy has grown substantially - many major school systems have high ratios of administrators to instructors - in Denver, for example, that ratio is 1 administrator for every 7.5 instructors.
- Parents have little to no input or control over the content and method of the service delivered to their children.
- Curricula is standardized and compliance enforced.
- Participation is coerced - legally mandated.
- Local school boards have become powerless.
- Funding is centralized and redistributed to make things "equal" - local school systems are slaves to federal funding
- Failing schools are largely ignored while high performers are discouraged
- Almost impossible to fire bad teachers and administrators
- The system rewards itself regardless of performance (or lack thereof).
- People who want to leave the system (homeschool) are punished.
- The system defends and perpetuates itself by requiring degrees in education - I am aware of a case where a Ph.D. in Physics was turned down as a science teacher because he wasn't certified by the education establishment as a "teacher".
- The rich and privileged escape the system through paying for private schools, the poor are trapped
