The war on cops imperils us all
"Even before the firing of ­Officer Daniel Pantaleo, there were signs on the street that cops are backing off — and who can blame them?
Image result for war on copsUnder Mayor Bill de Blasio — and the city’s increasingly progressive district attorneys — they feel ­unloved and under siege.
The street no longer fears the NYPD, and the disrespect of the summer’s cop dousings inevitably turned violent last weekend when three officers were injured in Brooklyn as people hurled heavy objects rather than water.
Now New Yorkers are sharing anecdotes like this:
On Aug. 14 at about 9 p.m. in the West Village, a woman is punched in the face by a stranger as she steps outside her apartment to give her dog a potty break.
The injury is mild but the addled perp remains across the street, so the victim’s husband calls the cops.
A squad car arrives but the officers decline to make an arrest, despite the presence of several witnesses.
“When someone is calling and they need help, officers are going to run in,” Joseph Imperatrice, founder of pro-cop group Blue Lives Matter, said Wednesday.
“But the days of proactive policing are completely done.”..."
