How do you measure success or failure in a situation like this?---Fans of Best of the Web Today

"To the folks claiming that President Trump has failed in the government's response to the pandemic - just a couple of questions, if I may - and one I have asked several people who say the President is "failing' or "has failed" - and not received a real answer:
How do you measure success or failure in a situation like this? 
By what metric do you define success or failure?

  • I've been told the mortality rates of this virus can't be compared to the flu because it is far deadlier and then people use those same numbers to say this pandemic is so much worse. 
  • I'm told I can't compare Obama's six month delay in declaring a national health emergency in the 2009 H1N1 pandemic with Trump's declaration 6 weeks after a similar declaration by Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, a declaration noting the novel coronavirus as a public health emergency in the United States. 
  • I'm told that the President banning flights from China (less than 2 weeks after the first case was officially diagnosed in the US) was moving too slow after having people on the record saying they were unnessary and were just expressions of racism and xenophobia from a racist and xenophobic president.

You can understand my confusion - unless, of course, you aren't interested in reality and just want to try to dunk on Trump..."
