See the source imageMichigan superintendents: Skip standardized test this year amid coronavirus | Bridge Magazine
"Michigan students, homebound for months because of the worst pandemic in a century and facing a return to school with social distancing and possibly face masks, shouldn’t have to take standardized tests.
That was the message of State Superintendent Michael Rice, a bipartisan group of legislators and school leaders from across the state Thursday.
If tests are eliminated for the upcoming school year, students would not take the M-STEP, third-graders would not face the possibility of being held back in grade for poor reading scores on the M-STEP, and teachers would not have student test scores used as part of their annual performance reviews...

America, the evil?-----"I am hard-pressed to see what makes American-ness intrinsically better than, say, Liechtensteiner-ness, Canadian-ness, or Basotho-ness."--Fans of Best of the Web Today

Fans of Best of the Web Today--Michael Smith
"Might as well get ready for the annual July 4th fireworks...no, not the ones in the sky, the usual flood of articles about how bad America is and why celebrating our freedom is some "ist" kind of bad.
I noticed some have posted the article how Mount Rushmore is really a celebration of white supremacy but the Salt Lake Tribune got a head start on Sunday with a gem headlined: "Being born someplace isn’t an accomplishment". It featured this wisdom:
"Beyond that, I’m not sure what “proud to be an American” even means. I don’t much care for its undeniable “We’re better than everyone else” ring. Try as I may, I am hard-pressed to see what makes American-ness intrinsically better than, say, Liechtensteiner-ness, Canadian-ness, or Basotho-ness. A human is a human, neither inferior nor superior, point of origin notwithstanding."
Like how one can count on falling leaves in Autumn, one can count on articles like this any time there is an opportunity to celebrate our nation."

Three events last week showed that Democrats do not want a mere transfer of power if they win the November election: they intend to revolutionize our entire system of government.
The first happened Wednesday, when Democrats blocked the Senate from considering a bill on police reform by Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC).

"...It was 9:53 p.m. when a Minneapolis police officer sent out an urgent call to the other officers who remained in the 3rd Precinct.
“We need to move. We need to move,” he shouted over the police radio.
Protesters were breaking into the back of the station, and officers were preparing to take an unprecedented step in American policing: to abandon their precinct building.
“The front has been breached,” an officer called over the radio just before they fled.
“They’re coming in. They’re coming in the back.”In a dramatic exit, a squad car rammed through a gate near the station in south Minneapolis, leading a motorcade racing from the parking lot.
Patrol officers in riot gear left on foot, hurrying past a jeering crowd hurling rocks and fireworks.

"The war on history has spread across our country and has even spilled over to other parts of the Western world.
Now, on a daily basis, we see scenes of lawless mobs attacking and tearing down statues, and defacing monuments of every type—often as authorities stand idly by.
But this violence has hardly been reserved just for statues.
After toppling a statue of an abolitionist who gave his life to the cause as a member of the Union Army, a mob in Madison, Wisconsin, mercilessly beat a Wisconsin Democrat state senator who supported the protests.

CHAZ Ripped Apart By Enraged Man Shouting ‘This Is Not A Black Movement’ | The Daily Caller

This man apparently was fed up with CHAZ, the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone in Seattle, and decided to take matters into his own hands.
The unidentified man started ripping apart booths and tossing tables in CHAZ on June 25, the video shows. The man also can be heard lecturing bystanders, saying “this is not a Black movement.”
CHAZ, also known as the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP), is located in downtown Seattle. Spanning six blocks, it is a self-proclaimed autonomous zone that organizers described as a cop-free area.
Later in the video, an unidentified Black woman is heard telling CHAZ residents that “the Republican Party is the party of the Blacks.”

Yet, pretending that these figures never existed, or eradicating the memory of the good they performed, will continue the march toward a false sense of place — one that is not based on what was, but on what the folks in power wish had been. That is a self-delusion that escapes reality.
We must live in the real world where bad men did good things and good men did bad things — and intelligent people recognize this.
You can escape reality. But you cannot escape the consequences of escaping reality. Those consequences will be the inevitable repetition of a past we should never forget.
