"...As a direct outgrowth of listening to our communities and to our own employees, we have one immediate response: We are discontinuing the routine use of mugshots to accompany stories about crimes....But it has become clear to us that use of mugshots – an old tradition in journalism – has serious problems that were becoming glaringly obvious.
Mugshots were on the mind of a Black woman from Saginaw who approached Johnson last weekend, he said.
“She was upset – (asking) why do we always report bad news and use mugshots of minority people all the time?
