"The upcoming change goes in line with the DOT’s decision made in December 2020 which would allow airlines under their jurisdiction to no longer be obligated to accommodate emotional support animals (ESA) from January 11, 2021.
According to the decision, emotional support animals would no longer be considered service animals, allowing airlines to charge for ESAs and limit the size and weight of animals coming on board.
