Hawley fired back by arguing the piece praises Gardner as a member of a “cohort of prosecutors that seek a new approach to justice, and in particular seek to reform current tough-on-crime practices.” Hawley stated that he actually agreed with the characterization, saying that these prosecutors’ practices were “pro-crime.”
