KALAMAZOO, MI -- The city of Kalamazoo has allocated over a half million dollars to a strategy meant to prevent community violence.On Tuesday, July 5, the Kalamazoo City Commission approved the allocation of $550,000 to the United Way of South Central Michigan to be granted to nonprofit organizations for eligible activities in direct response to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The money comes from $1 million in Community Violence Prevention ARPA State and Local Fiscal Relief funds that the previous city commission designated in September while declaring gun violence a public health crisis..."
