"Here's an interesting example of how media lies. Norah O'Donnell is an anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News, so her comments are relevant. See her tweet that the TDS crowd will take to mean Donald Trump lied about having his passports seized by the FBI.
- In fact, the FBI did seize Trump's passports, they later returned them.
- So O'Donnell is technically correct in saying that "the FBI is NOT in possession" of those passports, but the implication that Trump lied makes her statement a lie.
And the seizure of the passports matters because it indicates an excessively broad "seize everything" warrant, and thus illegal. Warrants are not supposed to justify arbitrary targeting and fishing, warrants must be specific as to what is being searched for. Given a legal warrant, the FBI agents would have had no basis to seize the passports in the first place. So we've got a Gestapo-class FBI at work, and a Pravda-class media to back them up. Scary times."
