"Thousands of southeast Michigan residents lost power Friday in the latest strong storm to strike the state, and crews continued working Monday to restore those still in the dark, but it appears they won't qualify for an outage credit.
...At one point Friday night, Consumers Energy reported under 30,000 customers without power...
  • "Outage credits are not yet automatic; they are currently still $25 and only one-time, and customers must request the credits," said Matt Helms, a spokesman for the Michigan Public Service Commission, which regulates the utilities.
  • The commission last March approved changes to state rules that would require all regulated utilities to increase their power outage credit rates from $25 to $35, plus $35 extra for additional days past a certain benchmark...
