The Consumers Energy's Summer Rate kicks in Thursday and runs through Sept. 30, according to a representative.
During peak time, from 2-7 p.m., Monday through Friday, electricity rate will be about 1 1/2 times higher than the "off-peak" rate price, according to Consumers.
Customers can expect to pay a lower rate price for electricity used outside peak hours and during the non-summer months of October through May, Consumers said.
To save money, customers are encouraged to reduce their electricity use during peak time.
Consumers Energy representatives said the summer rate ensures a cleaner future by encouraging customers to reduce their electricity use."
