Never trust the new overlords!-----Read the blistering letter from the editors of one of world's most prestigious scientific journals, slamming one of Facebook's fact-checkers as "inaccurate, incompetent and irresponsible" | Not the Bee

Read the blistering letter from the editors of one of world's most prestigious scientific journals, slamming one of Facebook's fact-checkers as "inaccurate, incompetent and irresponsible" | Not the Bee
This kind of thing doesn't happen every day.

"The editors of the BMJ—one of the oldest and most respected scientific journals in the world—have issued a blistering letter slamming Facebook for one of its "fact-checking" partners the editors are calling "inaccurate, incompetent and irresponsible."
At issue is the BMJ's publishing of a report on "internal company documents, photos, audio recordings, and emails" it received from an employee who had worked for a subcontractor of Pfizer during the company's COVID-19 vaccine trials.
The materials "revealed a host of poor clinical trial research practices occurring at Ventavia that could impact data integrity and patient safety," the editors claim.
After the magazine published the report on the findings, however, readers of the BMJ "began reporting a variety of problems when trying to share [the] article" on Facebook
Those issues were traced to a "fact check" performed by a Facebook partner, a check the editors deemed "inaccurate, incompetent and irresponsible."
Here's the whole letter. Read it to the end; it's a thunderclap...Read all!

Older adults in the U.S. are more likely than those around the world to age alone
More than a quarter of Americans ages 60 and older live alone (27%), compared with a global average of 16%...
Various studies have shown that many seniors who live alone suffer higher rates of depression, obesity, anxiety, cognitive decline, and other disorders compared to those with closer ties to friends and family.
Some research indicates that loneliness also increases the risk of an early death.
So what can we do to help those who live alone – our mother in an assisted-living facility, our grandfather in the next town, that neighbor we pass in the hallway of our apartment building?

It's far from perfect!-----AWS outages and cloud computing, explained | Popular Science

Amazon Web Services and other major cloud providers underpin much of the internet. Here's what to know about them—and why they can fail.
"In the first two weeks of this month, Amazon Web Services (AWS) hit some bumps that caused two outages...catalyzed disruptions across a range of websites and online applications, including Google, Slack, Disney Plus, Amazon, Venmo, Tinder, iRobot, Coinbase, and The Washington Post
These services all rely on AWS to provide cloud computing for them—in fact, AWS is the leading cloud computing provider among other big players like Microsoft Azure, Google, IBM, and Alibaba.
To understand why the impact was so big, and what steps that companies can take to prevent something like these disruptions in the future, it makes sense to take a step back and take a look at what cloud computing is, and what it’s good for.
So what is cloud computing and AWS?...Read all!
