Bottom Up Politics: "Small Steps"
"David Farhat our own newly elected Muskegon County Republican Chairman owns a building in the downtown and he stood up and explained how he only had 3 tenants and his rent was the cheapest in town. He couldn’t attract any more. He couldn’t understand how adding a couple of thousand to his tax bill forcing him out of business or to raise rents would remedy that situation. He also brought up a good point when he wondered why the huge Renovated Amazon building which is mainly made up of condos wasn’t going to be taxed in the plan at least for the condos.
He did give the best line of the night which went something like this at the end of his remarks. “I haven’t heard of a saying that says. Tax it and they will come”. Great line, had everyone snickering if not outright laughing."

"All of this raises some fascinating questions, the timeliest of which is:
How does a CEO answer questions about financial accounting when they're asked by dimwits who don't know enough to understand the answers?
Honestly, I don't know what I would do if I were in the CEO punishment seat being thumb-screwed by Barney Frank, or mau-maued by Maxine Waters."

WHY THE MARKETS ARE TANKING
WHY THE MARKETS ARE TANKING
"Last Oct. 13, in trying to explain why the market had sold off 30% in six weeks, we acknowledged that the freeze-up of the financial system was a big concern.
But we cited three other factors as well:
The imminent election of 'the most anti-capitalist politician ever nominated by a major party.'
The possibility of 'a filibuster-proof Congress led by politicians who are almost as liberal.'
A 'media establishment dedicated to the implementation of a liberal agenda, and the smothering of dissent wherever it arises.'
No wonder, we said then, that panic had set in."

In practice, that meant a worker could start at age 18, retire at 48, and spend more years collecting a pension and free health care than he or she actually spent working. City sweetens downtown condo deal
"The city of Muskegon is trying to spur buyers' interest in downtown condominiums by offering to convert one of them into a 'dockominium.'
That's right -- the first person to buy a condo priced at $250,000 or more before Dec. 15 gets a boat slip on Muskegon Lake.
The slip is a 60-footer at Harbour Towne Marina, near the Muskegon Lake Channel. It was acquired by the city from the state of Michigan through tax reversion.
The offer is good for condominium units in WaterMark Place, Vida Nova, Heritage Square Townhomes now under construction, and Highpoint Flats, the eight-story former Comerica Bank building yet to undergo conversion into residences.
The buyer will be required to reimburse the city its $5,000 acquisition costs, and will be subject to all future fees, taxes and assessments on the slips."
I wonder how long this will be available.....

Manufacturing Myths
Manufacturing Myths
Mr. Uchitelle says, 'Manufacturing's share of real gross domestic product... has dropped to between 16 and 17 percent, from 18 to 19 percent in the 1950s.... The downward trends are alarming.' Similar statistical exercises recently led to an interesting debate between my old friends Bruce Bartlett and Paul Craig Roberts.
Yet the National Association of Manufacturers' Web site shows that 'manufacturing's share of the U.S. economy, as measured by real GDP, has been stable since the late 1940s.... The overall share remains the same over the business cycle.' "
Isn't it amazing how "good news" is so hurtful to liberals?

'We don't want it hanging over our heads,' said the Rev. Charles Poole, president of the Muskegon Public Schools Board of Education.

Holder: US a nation of cowards on racial matters: "Eric Holder, the nation's first black attorney general, said Wednesday the United States was 'a nation of cowards' on matters of race, with most Americans avoiding candid discussions of racial issues. In a speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month, Holder said the workplace is largely integrated but Americans still self-segregate on the weekends and in their private lives.
'Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards,' Holder said."

"There is nothing more frustrating on this Earth than a slow computer -- especially in these tough economic times, when running out and buying a new high-end PC is not necessarily an option. Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act 2-16-9
Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House.
This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009.
We just learned yesterday about this on the Peter Boyles radio program.
Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because it is flying under the radar.
To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.
Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:
·It is registered
·You are fingerprinted
·You supply a current Driver's License
·You supply your Social Security #
·You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing
·Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.
·There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.
They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.
If you think this is a joke - go to the website and take your pick of many options to read this. It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of this. Pass the word along. Any hunters in your family - pass this along.
Peter Boyles is on this and having guests. Listen to him on K.H.O.W. 6:30 a.m. in the morning. He suggests the best way to fight this is to tell all your friends about it and "spring into action". Also he suggests we all join a pro-gun group like the Colorado Rifle Association, hunting associations, gun clubs and especially the NRA.
This is just a "termite" approach to complete confiscation of guns and disarming of our society to the point we have no defense - chip away a little here and there until the goal is accomplished before anyone realizes it.
This is one to act on whether you own a gun or not.
If you take my gun, only the criminal will have one to use against me. HR 45 only makes me/us less safe. After working with convicts for 26 years I know this bill, if passed, would make them happy and in less danger from their victims.

It seems that I am enjoying my moment in the limelight, because I am one of the very few people who several years ago unequivocally predicted the demise of the United States as a global superpower. The idea that the USA will go the way of the USSR seemed preposterous at the time. It doesn't seem so preposterous any more. I take it some of you are still hedging your bets. How is that hedge fund doing, by the way?"

Obama’s Revenge
Obama’s Revenge: "Once upon a time, a white teenager from Kansas got pregnant by her black Kenyan boyfriend, Barack Obama Sr., or was it her husband? Whatever. (I say whatever because we’ve never seen either marriage or divorce certificates). Some say the couple was in Kenya visiting relatives when the birth of their son, Barack Obama Jr., occurred. No matter. (I say no matter because we’ve never seen an authentic birth certificate). By the time the baby was two years old his father abandoned him for his other wife and child in Kenya."

"I stayed at the Shoreline Inn, a hulking rectangle turned on its end, dark and ominous against the winter sky.
Indeed, there didn't seem to be a single room with a light on.
I couldn't see the hotel; until my eyes adjusted, I thought I was staring at frozen lake.
In July, the spot is ideal, a hotel on a pier, perfect for boating or dangling your feet from the dock.
But, in January, to enter the lobby of the Shoreline, I had to pry open the non-automatic automatic doors. The staff seemed to number exactly one, despite 139 rooms."

"Kansas has suspended income tax refunds and may not be able to pay employees on time, the state's budget director said Monday.
The state doesn't have enough money in its main budget account to pay its bills, prompting Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to suggest transferring $225 million from other accounts throughout state government. But the move required approval from legislative leaders, and Republican leaders refused Monday."

What do we do when the spenders will NOT stop?
Oh yeah, Kalifornya and Meechigan are next in line....

Outrage brewing over proposed 1,900% beer tax hike
"Five Oregon state lawmakers want to impose a hefty tax on beer and have introduced a bill that brewers say would cripple them......
....The tax would raise revenue for the state at a time when budgets are running in the red. Specifically, the bill says it would fund prevention, treatment and recovery programs for those addicted to alcohol and other substances.
It also defends the tax by claiming alcoholism and “untreated substance abuse” costs the state $4.15 billion in “lost earnings” as well as more than $8 million for health care and nearly $1 billion in law enforcement-related expenditures."
No mention ANYWHERE in the article of which political party these fine statesmen are members of.

Not because their total amount of money "IN" is decling. It's because the teacher's union members took all the maintenance money for themselves.
So now it's our fault. Our wallets that must be emptied.

Federal obligations exceed world GDP
Federal obligations exceed world GDP
"As the Obama administration pushes through Congress its $800 billion deficit-spending economic stimulus plan, the American public is largely unaware that the true deficit of the federal government already is measured in trillions of dollars, and in fact its $65.5 trillion in total obligations exceeds the gross domestic product of the world.
The total U.S. obligations, including Social Security and Medicare benefits to be paid in the future, effectively have placed the U.S. government in bankruptcy, even before new continuing social welfare obligation embedded in the massive spending plan are taken into account."

"We've gotten used to journalists acting as lazy propagandists against the Iraq war effort, but yesterday's piece by USA Today's Gregg Zoroya takes the cake, stuffs its face with it, and goes back for seconds. 'Pentagon Reports U.S. Troop Obesity Doubles Since 2003,' reads the headline. For years the Angry Left has insisted that the liberation of Iraq was illegal and immoral, but Zoroya may be the first to claim it is fattening:"

Barack Obama's Economic Policy, Guided By Liberal Ideology, Is Impeding Recovery
"The Obama administration's economic policies do not include any of the four Reagan components. In fact, the stimulus plan is the greatest increase in government spending in the history of the planet. Meanwhile, the Fed is furiously reinflating, sowing more havoc down the line. Mr. Obama is still promising future increases in tax rates by letting the Bush tax cuts lapse, because for ideological reasons he thinks even current rates are too low. And instead of deregulating for more energy production, he is still promising massive increases in regulatory barriers -- through global warming cap-and-trade legislation -- to increased production from proven energy sources to serve an extreme environmentalist ideology."

"Harry had discovered that the county spends more on bilingual education than on English as a Second Language. In other words, the county is investing more to keep immigrants speaking their native language than learning the language that will help them improve their economic standing. In fact, as reported by U.S. English.org, U.S. Census data reveals that an immigrant's income rises about 30% as a result of learning English."

Proposed minimum GPA for Muskegon High School athletes tabled
"Funding worries appear to have doomed, at least for now, a plan to require a minimum grade point average for Muskegon High School athletes.
A committee of the board of education decided Tuesday to table a policy requiring athletes to carry at least a 2.0 average grade. Committee members expressed concern that the district would not be able to afford the costs of tutoring that academically struggling athletes would need to meet the requirement."

Sen. Harkin: 'We need the Fairness Doctrine back' - Politico.com
Michael Calderone's Blog: Sen. Harkin: 'We need the Fairness Doctrine back'
"Just this morning, I reported that Sen. Debbie Stabenow has backed off on the idea of holding hearings for radio accountability, something she discussed last week with liberal radio host Bill Press (leading to an uproar on conservative talk radio over the Fairness Doctrine).
Well today, Sen. Tom Harkin appeared on Press's show and came out in favor of the Fairness Doctrine.
BILL PRESS: And, thanks for your leadership, thanks for your good work, it's great to have you there Senator. And, great to have you on the show. Appreciate it.
SENATOR TOM HARKIN (D-IA): Well, anytime – just let me know Bill. I love being with you, and thanks again for all you do to get the truth and the facts out there. By the way, I read your Op-Ed in the Washington Post the other day. I ripped it out, I took it into my office and said 'there you go, we gotta get the Fairness Doctrine back in law again.'
BILL PRESS: Alright, well good for you. You know, we gotta work on that, because they are just shutting down progressive talk from one city after another. All we want is, you know, some balance on the airwaves, that's all. You know, we're not going to take any of the conservative voices off the airwaves, but just make sure that there are a few progressives and liberals out there, right?
SENATOR TOM HARKIN (D-IA): Exactly, and that's why we need the fair -- that's why we need the Fairness Doctrine back."
The free market won't support "progressive talk" so we'll have the Brown Shirts of Pelosi/Reid/Omama force it on our airwaves.
Well, it's at least "change"....

Risky pension fund fliers must end
Risky pension fund fliers must end
"The worse news was that a significant part of the difference between Detroit's loss and the average loss appears to have come from investments in local businesses that went belly up. Five such deals alone account for $140 million of the $2 billion-plus in losses. The pension boards' losing gambits include a now-defunct waste injection well in Romulus and an Asian Village restaurant venture that lasted about a year....
Taxpayers can only hold their breath in hopes disaster won't befall them, while insisting that the pension boards clean up their acts."
"Hold our breath"?
Why not address the problem!
The public pension funds need to be reworked!

Calculating Employee Compensation
Calculating Employee Compensation
"When one does an in-depth analysis of the real rates of employee compensation in the public sector vs. the private sector, the solution to government deficits is clear. The solution is not “furloughs” or even layoffs. The solution is to cut their pay and their benefits to levels equivalent to what people make in the private sector. This step would not only restore equity to the workforce, but would immediately eliminate the structural deficits endured by state and local governments."

But the money won't just go to buy fuel-efficient hybrids such as the Ford Escape or Chevy Volt.
The cash also can be used to purchase 'neighborhood electric vehicles.'"

"The common presumption is that public servants forgo high wages in exchange for safe jobs and benefits. The reality is they get all three.
State and local government workers get paid an average of $25.30 an hour, which is 33% higher than the private sector’s $19, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
Throw in pensions and other benefits and the gap widens to 42%."
