Where is the Public Outrage Over Pensions?

Where is the Public Outrage Over Pensions?
"You might be reading my blog wondering where is public outrage over pensions?
For example, how can PSP Investments lose billions and still pay their top officers bonuses, allowing them to get extremely well compensated in a terrible year?

And it's not just PSP. The same is happening in many other large public Canadian pension funds, including CPPIB where top officers got millions with their bonuses after losing a whopping $24 billion in FY 2009.

So where is the outrage?
I just came back from Greece where if even a fraction of this came out in the media, there would be riots in the streets.
The same can be said about other European countries, especially in France.

But 'civilized' Canadians seem to be sleepwalking while their pensions are dwindling.
The unions are keeping silent too.
Why?
Maybe because they know that the federal and provincial governments are on the hook to pay out pension benefits even if the public pension plans are severely underfunded.
Why make a fuss when you know the government will come in and shore up the plan?"

Good luck......but I sure hope he didn't get "stimulus" money for this.

Birthers Versus True Believers

Birthers Versus True Believers
"Let's think big (in a small-minded way) - suppose the original certifcate has Obama as 'Barry', with attendant documentation formally changing his name to 'Barack' when Obama was in his teens or twenties. That would be a hard memory lapse to explain, and sort of mar the current version of his 'Dreams From My Father' story."

Gordo's Musings

I watched the local news shows this morning and they were ALL talking about how SUCCESSFUL the cash for junk cars was.

Like they were surprised that the government giving out free money was popular to those who got the free money.
Isn't EVERY "free money" program popular?

Are these TV folks seriously stupid or just lying to us?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The same folks who complain about EVERY government department (road repair, cops, non-synchronized stop lights, giant deficits, et al, etcetera....) are totally convinced that Obama and Rom Emanuel (with help from Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank) will run our entire health care system with precision, efficiency and economy.

ARE THEY NUTS???????
update:
the rest of us are just too stupid....

Dealers Race to Get Their Clunkers Crushed

They've got to destroy the car BEFORE they can even submit the paperwork!!!!!!

And if it's rejected AFTER the destruction of the customer's car, Great Leader's minions will say "never mind"?

Dealers Race to Get Their Clunkers Crushed

Dealers Race to Get Their Clunkers Crushed
"We spent a couple of days earlier this week following the whole complex program, from dealer to scrap heap, and found twists and turns in it that are making it a nightmare now for everyone involved.
The program requires that the clunkers be put out of service for good, so dealers must destroy the engines on cars that are traded in.
We watched this process yesterday at the DCH Paramus Honda in Paramus, N.J. It is quite laborious and potentially dangerous.
And it certainly is final."

So, these same geniuses are gonna use the same methodology on your wife or daughter's breast lump.

Are there really THAT many fools in our country who believe that Obama and his cronys can deliver better, CHEAPER health care than our current system?

So at some point some number of Obama flacks must have figured that this pic makes our guy look good: Are they so monarchically besotted that what most people find jarring about the shot is what the image boys actually like about it?"

A Minimum Wage Equals Minimum Jobs: The unseen costs of minimum wage laws
"Wage minimums tell employers: 'Don't give a beginner a chance.'

One company closes because it can't afford to pay higher wages.
Another decides to produce its product with fewer workers, and another never expands.
Perhaps most importantly, there's the business that never opens.
The people who were never hired don't complain—they wouldn't know whom to blame—they don't even know that they were harmed.

Tax Burden of Top 1% Now Exceeds That of Bottom 95%

Tax Burden of Top 1% Now Exceeds That of Bottom 95%

Newly released data from the IRS clearly debunks the conventional Beltway rhetoric that the "rich" are not paying their fair share of taxes.
Indeed, the IRS data shows that in 2007—the most recent data available—the top 1 percent of taxpayers paid 40.4 percent of the total income taxes collected by the federal government. This is the highest percentage in modern history. By contrast, the top 1 percent paid 24.8 percent of the income tax burden in 1987, the year following the 1986 tax reform act.
Remarkably, the share of the tax burden borne by the top 1 percent now exceeds the share paid by the bottom 95 percent of taxpayers combined. In 2007, the bottom 95 percent paid 39.4 percent of the income tax burden. This is down from the 58 percent of the total income tax burden they paid twenty years ago.
To put this in perspective, the top 1 percent is comprised of just 1.4 million taxpayers and they pay a larger share of the income tax burden now than the bottom 134 million taxpayers combined.

"Second, the CARS dealer website -- where dealerships submit applications -- cannot handle the traffic. Dealers continuously report website crashes rendering them unable to submit their application. This increases the amount of time dealers must wait before they receive their rebate check -- depleting cash flow.
Third, worry is building in many dealerships because many applications for the rebate are being denied after the car deal. Some on this blog have expressed outraged after dealers have called them back demanding the customer make up for the denied CARS rebate (up to $4,500.00) or else they would have to return the car immediately.
Some have had their trade-in cars already destroyed."

:: Bersa Talk :: - IRAQ vs. D.C. DEATHS: "An interesting letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week, which I quote: 'If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the past 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.

The firearm death rate in Washington, DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period. That means you are about 25 per cent more likely to be shot and killed in the US capital, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the US , than you are in Iraq .

Conclusion: The US should pull out of Washington"

"BOSTON — Massachusetts lawmakers could vote as early as Wednesday on a plan to restore $2 million to the budget of the Boston area's two major zoos weeks after zoo officials raised the specter of animals being euthanized because of funding cuts.

And if there's lot's of folks who want to do so, and it's such a great idea it'll produce a profit, why have a panel to "guage public support"?

What: A public hearing on the environmental impact of a plan to build an elevated hydrogen-based high speed rail system to transport people and freight from Detroit to Grand Rapids along Michigan's interstate system.

Who: A bipartisan state task force that is studying the potential of the project, which is proposed by a private company says it will share revenues with the state and local government.

Senate Backs Obama, Defunds Jet Engine Project - Political News - FOXNews.com: "For the second time in three days, the U.S. Senate went along with the Obama administration's efforts to change the way the Pentagon funds its warfighting programs by stopping funding for an extra jet engine for a next-generation jet fighter.
The Senate voice-voted Thursday to remove $439 million that was set aside to develop an alternate engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter from a $680 billion defense budget bill.
This comes two days after the Senate agreed to take out $1.75 billion for new production of the F-22 fighter, which is being phased out as the F-35 becomes the military's prime attack plane."

Democrats Block GOP Health Care Mailing

Democrats Block GOP Health Care Mailing
"Democrats are preventing Republican House Members from sending their constituents a mailing that is critical of the majority’s health care reform plan, blocking the mailing by alleging that it is inaccurate.
House Republicans are crying foul and claiming that the Democrats are using their majority to prevent GOP Members from communicating with their constituents."

This is disturbing.

Muskegon County Youth Fair-Go now!

This is a fabulous FREE event in our community.

Here's the schedule of events:

Gordo's Musings

President Obama said this yesterday:
"I'm rushed because I get letters every day from families that are being clobbered by health care costs."
Doesn't he get letters "everyday" from Americans who are afraid their children will be buried in debt from Obama and his comrades endlessly spending their country into bankruptcy?
Maybe "Government Provided Postal Delivery (Mail-Care)" simply lost those letters.......?

You know you've gotten old when:
I saw a young mother taking a photo of her Mom and child at the Muskegon County Youth Fair today and offered to take a shot of all of them. She said "sure, thanks".
I took a few photos and gave her back her camera....she thanked me very nicely..... "thank you sir"......

Norton Shores will have a primary election next week.
I know 2 of the three candidates and yet have absolutely no information on how any of them would lead our city.
That's sad...... and bad!

Mayoral primary coming up in Norton Shores

Mayoral primary coming up in Norton Shores
"A sight that is usually reserved for November city elections is a sure sign that an unusual event is coming soon.

Political signs are dotting the yards of Norton Shores residences in preparation for the Aug. 4 primary election. A rare Norton Shores mayoral primary is the only race on that date in Muskegon County.

Three candidates -- incumbent Henry 'Hank' Waldo, 63; Gary Nelund, 39; and William Moulatsiotis, 28 -- are vying for the four-year term as mayor. Waldo has served as mayor since March, taking over after the death of Jerry L. Wiersma.

The top two vote-getters in the primary will square off in the Nov. 3 general election."

Isn't is sad that this tiny piece of drivel is the best our local newspaper can offer as "information" about a very important primary election in the most powerful city in our county?

Even sadder is that this void is the norm.....

Families remember fatal boat crash 50 years later

"Even after 50 years, a night-time collision between a cabin cruiser and the car ferry Highway 16 still stands as Muskegon's worst boating accident in living memory."

Public Pension Rip Off: Will It Hurt You?

Public Pension Rip Off: Will It Hurt You?
"The Wall Street Journal ran a great article yesterday on what I would consider a major problem for public pensions, and it’s called spiking.
Spiking occurs when a public employee substantially increases his or her pay in the year or two prior to retirement for the purpose of locking in a higher pension payment.
If you’re a public employee, particularly a younger employee, this practice may jeopardize the security of your pension.
How does spiking work?"

Read it all.... and call and write your congressman and newspaper.
This is nothing more than a criminal enterprise to steal from us taxpayers!

These promos are funny but this one shows, again, how the left has mis-educated too many Americans about the difference between an illegal machine gun (an automatic weapon) and a legal "semi-automatic" (one shot at a time) weapon.

New GM to launch fragrance line
Think of "Cadillac, the new fragrance for men."

Sputtering General Motors Co., just out of a quick drive through bankruptcy court, will soon be using its iconic Cadillac brand to sell a line of fragrance for men.

......"Cadillac, the new fragrance for men is part of the recent Cadillac renaissance: Hot new products and redesigns that capture the mantra of life, liberty and the pursuit," said Alwyn Stephen, a Beauty Contact director.

"Our fragrance is a relevant extension of the Cadillac lifestyle."

The line includes a spray, aftershave lotion, deodorant stick, hair and body wash. Some products will come in translucent glass bottles with sleek metal caps. The retail price for a 100 millilitre bottle of the eau de toilette fragrance will be $73.

"The design pays tribute to the opulence and extravagance of past eras, as well as the luxury and ease of today," the firm added.

Gotta love that gov'ment marketing expertise...doncha!

Not so stimulating
"According to the state office responsible for tracking the money, New Hampshire has received so far $413.6 million in stimulus funds, which have resulted in the creation of 50 jobs, all in government, most of them temporary and only 34 of them full time. That comes to a cost of $8.32 million per job, or nearly $10 million per full time job, if we assume that two of the part-time jobs equal one full-time job."

"You don't have a problem with God, do ya?'

This is a question posed to CNN reporter Carol Costello during a recent interview with Mark Muller, a Missouri car dealer whose company is offering an unusual incentive: a free AK-47 with the purchase of a vehicle.

Thanks to Muller, we now know Costello doesn't have a problem with God. (She answered in the negative).
We also know she's, for lack of a more dignified term--not because I can't think of one but because she doesn't deserve it--just plain dumb."
