LIBERTY REVIEW:
"I envision a parade in Washington D.C. with every participant carrying something that was built by an American who dared to dream.
A fly swatter could be held in everyone’s left hand.
It could symbolize that we will swat away the president’s attempt to not only change our history but to downplay the importance of American ingenuity.
Of course, the swatter could also symbolize what the progressives are successfully doing to our country. They’re swatting away our individualism, self-reliance, our one nation under God and liberty."

Transistors
Transistors were first developed in 1947 by Bell Laboratories and allow precise control of the flow of current through circuit boards. A transistor is the active component in almost all modern electronics systems. Moore’s law predicted that over the history of computing hardware the amount of transistors in integrated circuits will double every two years, influencing their impact on the evolution of technology.

"The ACLU and Freedom From Religion Foundation sent letters to the schools within the past week saying participation in the religious event gives the appearance the schools were endorsing or advancing a specific religious message or denomination, in violation of the First Amendment.

Andrew Seidel, staff attorney with the Freedom From Religion Foundation, said the students are being coerced “to forgo their constitutional right to a secular government in order to participate in a school activity.”

Ken Braun: President Obama's minimum wage hike would price young adults out of jobs | MLive.com
A smattering of fast food workers walked off the job across America again on Thursday, demanding a $15 per hour minimum wage. The demonstrations were most popular in large cities, and 200 picketers reportedly protested outside a McDonald’s in Detroit.
President Obama deliberately added fuel to this fire, delivering a speech in an inner-city D.C. neighborhood a day before the scheduled protests, calling for a minimum wage hike to over $10 per hour and mentioning the fast food industry specifically.
President Obama deliberately added fuel to this fire, delivering a speech in an inner-city D.C. neighborhood a day before the scheduled protests, calling for a minimum wage hike to over $10 per hour and mentioning the fast food industry specifically.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its monthly jobs report on Friday, showing 20.8 percent of teenagers cannot find work, and 12.5 percent of African-Americans are facing the same prospect. For Detroit, a city with higher unemployment than the nation and a huge population of African-American teenagers, the demonstration outside McDonald’s and the President’s speech were far from helpful.
....Minimum wage jobs are the first rung on the economic ladder for many young Americans, regardless of where they live. An abundance of entry-level jobs means a lot of opportunity for new workers to enter the labor force, gain experience, and move upward.
...Increasing the minimum wage puts that first rung on the economic ladder higher, beyond the reach of more new workers. It causes the employers to hire fewer of them and look for other options.

Sinkholes on the way?
My Way News - Detroit's water drains away from ravaged pipes:
"Torrents of water spew from broken pipes in Detroit's Crosman School, cascading down stairs before pooling on the warped tile of what was once a basketball court.
No one knows how long the water has flowed through the moldy bowels of the massive building a few miles north of downtown, but Crosman has been closed since 2007.
It's not the only empty structure where city water steadily fills dark basements or runs into the gutter, wasting money and creating safety hazards.
As Detroit goes through the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, the city's porous water system illustrates how some of its resources are still draining away even as it struggles to stabilize its finances and provide basic services."

Federal workers 'essential' during shutdown now not essential during DC snow day | WashingtonExaminer.com
How things change in just two months: Thousands of government workers who were deemed “essential” during the government shutdownin September, when their paychecks were at risk, have now, in a dramatic reversal, been deemed nonessential while they enjoy a paid snow day off.
...In the District of Columbia, which was forced to follow the same standard because of its relationship with the federal government, Mayor Vincent Gray sought to avoid any employees having to be sidelined by arguing that every single one of the city's 33,000 employees was “essential to the protection of public safety, health, and property,” as he wrote to federal officials.
But on Tuesday, a District of Columbia spokeswoman told the Washington Examinerthat virtually all D.C. employees were at home due to the snow that dusted the capital region.

No tailgating parties at Super Bowl stadium - ESPN New York
SECAUCUS, N.J. -- Forget about setting up those kegs or buffet tables in the parking lot before this season's Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. There will be no tailgating, according to the game's committee CEO, Al Kelly.
"You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in your car," Kelly said. "And provided you're in the boundaries of a single parking space, you'll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However, you're not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you're not going to be able to take out a grill, and you're not going to be able to take up more than one parking space. And it'll all be watched very carefully."
“
You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in you car. And provided you're in the boundaries of a single parking space, you'll be able to eat or drink right next to your car.”-- Al Kelly, Super Bowl committee
..There will be only three ways for the expected 80,000 ticket holders to get to the game. The committee will charter buses called the Fan Express, which will cost $51 and pick up and drop off passengers at nine locations around the region. Fans can also take N.J. Transit to the MetLife Stadium stop or be dropped off by vehicles that must have parking passes.
There will be fewer than 13,000 parking spots available for fans.
And hiring a black car, taxi or limo won't be an option for VIPs who will spend thousands of dollars per ticket. No cars will be allowed near the stadium on game day without parking passes, and any car that drops off a passenger will have to wait at the stadium.
...Fans who had considered parking farther from the stadium and getting there on foot will not be allowed to enter.
"You cannot walk to the Super Bowl," Kelly said. "You can get your hotel to drop you off at one of the New Jersey Transit locations or get the shuttle to take you to a Fan Express location, but you cannot walk."

"The National Security Agency isn't the only government entity secretly collecting data from people's cellphones. Local police are increasingly scooping it up, too.
Armed with new technologies, including mobile devices that tap into cellphone data in real time, dozens of local and state police agencies are capturing information about thousands of cellphone users at a time, whether they are targets of an investigation or not, according to public records obtained by USA TODAY and Gannett newspapers and TV stations.
The records, from more than 125 police agencies in 33 states, reveal:
• About one in four law-enforcement agencies have used a tactic known as a "tower dump," which gives police data about the identity, activity and location of any phone that connects to the targeted cellphone towers over a set span of time, usually an hour or two. A typical dump covers multiple towers, and wireless providers, and can net information from thousands of phones."

Police search for sign terrorist, claim constructing and displaying signs encouraging "couch-incineration" may to be gateway to Al- Qaeda or Barcalounger-ism or something really scary like that.....
Hopefully AG Holder will deem this a Hate-Crime.
Imagine the angst, the fear experienced by every family who loves their couch, their loveseat or loves to snuggle in their Barcalounger.
Is no couch safe in America any more?!!!!!!!!
Attorney: Holding 'Burn the Couch' Sign 'Not a Criminal Act':
"Is someone who holds up a sign at a game responsible for something that then happens in a city four hours away?
It's the question now being asked following a post on the East Lansing police department's official Facebook page Monday, asking for tips to help identify the man who held up the now arguably infamous 'Burn the Couch' sign seen during Saturday's broadcast of the MSU-OSU title game.
The post, which included a screen capture from the Saturday night broadcast of the game, said ELPD was looking to identify the person holding the sign and added that tips can remain anonymous.
....Connor Swanson, a graduate student at Michigan State, said he believed there was a possibility the sign might've encouraged people to behave the way they did.
"Who's to say if it would've happened if he didn't hold it up (the sign)," Swanson said.
"I feel like people would've partied, but it wouldn't have been that crazy.""

Detroit Police Chief Craig backs sensors to track gunfire | The Detroit News:
"Detroit— Detroit police are considering making a second run at using “ShotSpotter” technology that uses sound sensors to find where gunshots are coming from, Chief James Craig said Friday.
...Mayor Dave Bing pushed two years ago for the city to sign a three-year, $2.6 million contract to use ShotSpotter, but the City Council narrowly rejected the measure.
Craig recently started drafting a plan for using the technology but has not requested funding from the city, said Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody, a department spokesman."

If it turns out to be "bad", blame Bush and Palin......Scientists Discover Huge Freshwater Reserves Beneath the Ocean
....if it turns out to be "good" credit our "leader" B Hussein Obama ....... right?
Scientists Discover Huge Freshwater Reserves Beneath the Ocean - Slashdot:
""Scientists have discovered huge freshwater reserves beneath the seabed on continental shelves off the coast of Australia, North America, China and South Africa.
'The volume of this water resource is a hundred times greater than the amount we've extracted from the Earth's sub-surface in the past century since 1900.
Fresh water on our planet is increasingly under stress and strain so the discovery of significant new stores off the coast is very exciting.
It means that more options can be considered to help reduce the impact of droughts and continental water shortages' says Dr Vincent Post of the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT) and the School of the Environment at Flinders University.""

If they build it, we won't come------Work on M-1 started?
More money to the "connected" to build another boondoggle for Detroit.
Follow the money!
Work on M-1 started? Blog offers photo | Crain's Detroit Business:
"Has work begun on Woodward Avenue for the M-1 Rail streetcar line?
Maybe, sort of, possibly.
A photo published Dec. 4 by real estate blog Detroit.Curbed.com showed overnight underground street work being done at Woodward Avenue and Congress Street.
M-1 project spokesman James Canning said he couldn't confirm whether the work being done in the photo was, in fact, related to the $137 million streetcar effort.
The M-1 project itself hasn't begun such work.
However, Canning did say utility companies such as DTE and Comcast have received approval to begin the underground work required before construction of the 3.3-mile streetcar line can begin in the spring."

In 2009, they were tenth. On math, U.S. students ranked 30th this year. In 2009, they ranked 24th.
And in science, U.S. students were 23rd of the more than 65 countries tested, four below their 2009 ranking.
The results generated a raft of concerned statements."
