I critiqued that column. 
Now she’s written a response to that critique, claiming that I (among others) interpreted her in bad faith for mentioning several countries that have tried socialism and failed, from Venezuela to the Soviet Union, and for pointing out that many of the supposedly socialist countries that socialists so often proclaim as their examples aren’t actually socialist (see, for example, Denmark and Sweden).
...Finally, she decides on her favorite new socialist paradise: Norway.
Now, this is useful. 
We can argue over whether the United States ought to embrace policies more like those of Norway. 
...So, is Norway actually a socialist country? 
Not quite. 
It’s far more socialistic than the United States — but that’s not really a good thing, which is why immigration to Norway has been historically low, while immigration to the United States has remained remarkably high. 
And making apples to orange comparisons between Norway and the U.S. isn’t statistically or intellectually honest."

The games begin when economists get their hands on scientific projections and try to translate temperatures into human impacts. They conduct statistical analyses of the effects that small year-to-year temperature variations have on things like mortality and economic growth, and try to extrapolate to the effect of very large, slow shifts in underlying climate.
This creates absurd estimates that ignore human society’s capacity for adaptation.
This is the latest iteration of the same mistake environmental catastrophists seem insistent on making in every generation.

"...It’s worth keeping that case in mind as another graduate of Duke, Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, stands in the crosshairs of St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner. 
Greitens was indicted for felony invasion of privacy, in a case with dynamics that seem strikingly similar to the Duke lacrosse case — a prosecutor who may have brought an indictment based more on politics than facts, and a public that may be judging too quickly.
It is my personal opinion that Gardner may be guilty of malpractice and malfeasance on par with the Duke lacrosse case, but with potential to do far greater harm to our nation. 
Her misconduct is of such a magnitude that she should be investigated and possibly disbarred. 
If she is found to be guilty of malfeasance, like the infamous prosecutor in the Duke rape case, she too should face criminal charges.
...Five questions about the legitimacy of this case demand an answer.
1. Where is the police report?
Our legal system typically works like this: someone commits a crime against someone else. 
The victim calls the police, who file a report and conduct an investigation. 
A prosecutor uses the police documents to get an indictment, and a trial begins.
That’s how the system is supposed to work. 
But in this case, the indictment came down without a police report. 
It came without a full investigation. 
And — astonishingly — it came without a victim seeking justice. 
We know, from prior reporting, that the person who the Circuit Attorney has alleged is the victim never went to the police and never brought an action against Greitens. 
Indeed, her only complaint has been that this case was brought into the public to begin with. 
She asked for privacy, and the prosecutor gave her a circus.
Remember how this case first came to light: An aggrieved ex-husband recorded the victim without her consent or knowledge. 
A television station, Missouri’s KMOV, had shabby enough editorial standards that they chose to run that recording on the nightly news, even as other news organizations passed on it. 
And that, it turns out, is all that was used by the prosecutor to bring a charge: a secret recording by an angry ex-husband, and a news report.
That’s hardly the stuff of which felony indictments should be made.

Neglecting the tracker is a real shame. Federal economists estimated that employers added 200,000 jobs in January and Friday’s job report showed another 313,000 added in February -- more than enough to be on a healthy pace to average 208,333 jobs per month in 2018.

But plenty of people took that exact same risk in 2001 — buying more house than they could afford.
But those people had no trouble refinancing to more affordable mortgages, because the market was soaring and they had loads of equity. 
The same risk produced two very different outcomes depending on when people happened to take it.
You’ll see this pattern repeated over and over if you look at failures, from major disasters to corporate collapses: They start with people taking risks that others (or they themselves) had taken before. 
Only this time, something goes wrong, and that little risk turns into a big problem..."
