How your WiFi can protect against intruders | ScienceNordic

How your WiFi can protect against intruders | ScienceNordic:
...use WiFi Internet for very different purposes:
To identify and track the movement of people within a building covered by a wireless network.
Image result for WiFi can protect against intrudersIt’s a high tech surveillance system that not even The Night Fox of Ocean’s Twelve could capoeira his way out of without triggering the alarm.
A new generation of security monitoring
These applications could lead to a new generation of security or monitoring systems for detecting physical intrusion by humans in your home or workplace, using only the radio frequency (RF) signals of your wireless network.
In some cases, this could avoid the cost of physically mounting traditional burglar alarm systems, such as the widely used Passive InfraRed (PIR) sensors, ultra-sound sensors, door contacts, motion detectors, or glass break detectors.
...A simple security system
Consider a classic PIR based surveillance system, where the PIR unit is divided into two parts: An infrared sensor and a wireless communication part.
The PIR is physically mounted in a room and communicates, typically via WiFi, with the main alarm system elsewhere in the house.
When an intruder enters the room, the PIR sensor measures the heat radiation from that person and converts these measurements to a digital signal, which is then communicated through the wireless network to the main alarm unit. If the changes in heat radiation are sufficient then the alarm is sounded..."

Here Are the Companies Boycotting Laura Ingraham, Let's Boycott Them Right Back:
"The left’s “tolerance” is on display once again.
Outspoken student activist David Hogg has unleashed his followers against conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham, and is essentially threatening her livelihood because she spoke her mind on Twitter.
Ingraham is facing a loss of advertisers on her program after the 17-year-old Hogg called on supporters to boycott her.

She shared an article that accurately reported the teen activist’s problems being accepted into major universities.
“David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it,” Laura Ingraham posted on Wednesday.
She linked to an article that was not even written by her, but was penned by Daily Wire contributor Joseph Curl.

“David Hogg, a self-appointed spokesman for a generation, revealed on Tuesday that four universities he has applied to have rejected his application,” the Daily Wire article shared by Ingraham explained...
...Several advertisers sided with the now-famous teen activist, and announced that they would be pulling their sponsorship of “The Ingraham Angle.”

20 Questions You’re Not Supposed to Ask in 2018 America - John Hawkins:
"As politics has become more tribal and geared toward demonization instead of debate, it’s amazing how many important questions don’t seem to be asked any more.
Instead of discussing issues rationally, people are stuck in little boxes based on where they fall on an issue.
Whatever happened to actually assuming that there are two potentially legitimate sides to a debate and hashing them out based upon which one makes more sense?
See the source imageOf course, to do that, you’ve got to get beyond political correctness to ask the basic questions -- questions that are deemed racist, sexist, fascistic, etc., etc., as part of an effort to shut down necessary conversations...
1) Are we really doing transsexuals a favor by pretending they can change into another gender and allowing them to mutilate themselves via surgery or are we actually setting them up for failure when we pretend that they’re not mentally ill?
...3) Are the problems black Americans have as a group a result of racism or a result of the sort of culture that Thomas Sowell talks about in “Black Rednecks and White Liberals?”  A culture that leads to a significant percentage of black Americans committing more crime, being more anti-intellectual and producing far more children out of wedlock than many other groups?
...5) If the government gives money to Planned Parenthood and PBS, why would it be wrong for the government to give money to the NRA or Heritage Foundation?...

U.S. life expectancy has lengthened significantly for the last 60 years.
But at least part of the gains in life expectancy may be due to a change in the rate of biological aging, rather than simply keeping very sick people alive for longer, according to a study by USC and Yale University researchers.
“This is the first evidence we have of delayed ‘aging’ among a national sample of Americans,”...
Using health and nutrition data from more than 21,500 Americans, the researchers examined how biological age — relative to chronological age — changed in the U.S. from 1988 to 2010, while considering the contributions of health behaviors..."

WHAT DAVID HOGG’S LAURA INGRAHAM BOYCOTT IS REALLY ABOUT: The March For Our Lives folks are smart…

Instapundit » Blog Archive » WHAT DAVID HOGG’S LAURA INGRAHAM BOYCOTT IS REALLY ABOUT
WHAT DAVID HOGG’S LAURA INGRAHAM BOYCOTT IS REALLY ABOUT:
"The March For Our Lives folks are smart enough to realize this advantage and exploit it to maximum effect. It’s hard to promote your viewpoint when it comes at the price of your revenue stream.

Breitbart learned this lesson after becoming the primary target for an economic pressure campaign by the left-wing group Sleeping Giants. The conservative news outlet reportedly lost 90 percent of its advertisers due to this campaign.

Media Matters has wanted to replicate this effect for Fox News for some time. In the past, they were able to get Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly hauled off the air by pressuring their advertisers. Now the progressive group hopes to do the same with Ingraham and Sean Hannity.

The pressure campaign isn’t intended to promote civility or “facts-based” discourse. If that was the goal, Hogg would be the primary target of that effort. He’s taken every chance to smear his opponents as blood-thirsty murderers and spouted reckless rhetoric. Yet, Hogg is still a respected hero because he demands gun control. (RELATED: Don’t Expect Gun Grabbers To Be Civil)

Fox will hopefully hold its ground and stand by its host. Axing her show would open up all of their hosts to the same kind of economic intimidation. A punitive action against Ingraham would only show blood in the water to its adversaries.

The Left knows it can count on corporations to do its bidding when called upon — and it’s going to be more frequently used against the Right in the years to come. It’s time for conservatives to acknowledge this problem and let corporate America know it can’t turn into the enforcer of progressivism.
Related: “Companies including Wayfair, TripAdvisor, Nutrish, and NestlĂ© have canceled their ads with Ingram. Now David Hogg is seeking reparations from one of America’s most beloved fast food chains. In a series of tweets late Thursday evening [Hogg] went after Arby’s for their advertising on Ingraham’s show. Hogg went as far as to publish the private names and emails of executives at Arby’s to pressure them into pulling their advertisements.”

Its score in The Heritage Foundation’s annual Index of Economic Freedom fell again this year, reflecting a significant deterioration of Brazil’s fiscal health—aggravated by decreases in labor freedom, business freedom, government spending, and government integrity.

At the same time, Brazilian politics and social institutions have become increasingly unstable."

US: Won't pay over 25 percent of UN peacekeeping anymore:
"UNITED NATIONS — The United States will no longer shoulder more than a quarter of the multibillion-dollar costs of the United Nations' peacekeeping operations, Washington's envoy said Wednesday.
"Peacekeeping is a shared responsibility," U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley said at a Security Council debate on peacekeeping reform.

The U.S. is the biggest contributor to the U.N.'s 15 peacekeeping missions worldwide.
Washington is paying about 28.5 percent of this year's $7.3 billion peacekeeping budget, though Haley said U.S. law is supposed to cap the contribution at 25 percent.
The second-biggest contributor, China, pays a bit over 10 percent..."

How the Nazis Used Gun Control | National Review:
"The Weimar Republic’s well-intentioned gun registry became a tool for evil.
The perennial gun-control debate in America did not begin here.
The same arguments for and against were made in the 1920s in the chaos of Germany’s Weimar Republic, which opted for gun registration. Law-abiding persons complied with the law, but the Communists and Nazis committing acts of political violence did not.
In 1931, Weimar authorities discovered plans for a Nazi takeover in which Jews would be denied food and persons refusing to surrender their guns within 24 hours would be executed.
They were written by Werner Best, a future Gestapo official.
In reaction to such threats, the government authorized the registration of all firearms and the confiscation thereof, if required for “public safety.”
The interior minister warned that the records must not fall into the hands of any extremist group..."
