"Twenty-five years ago, on February 28, 1993, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents attempted to execute a “dynamic entry” into the home of a religious community at Mount Carmel, a property 10 miles east of Waco, Texas.
...On March 1, 1993, FBI agents took control of the property, and ended up presiding over what became a 51-day siege.
On April 19, the siege ended in a second tragedy when FBI agents carried out a tank and tear gas assault, which culminated in a massive fire.
Seventy-six Branch Davidians, including 20 children and two miscarried babies, died.
Nine Branch Davidians escaped the fire.
...Immediately after the fire, most Americans took the side of the FBI.
A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll found that 73 percent of Americans thought that the FBI’s use of tear gas was “responsible.”
Only 13 percent thought the FBI had acted too soon, while 57 percent believed it was “not soon enough.”...

"A teenager who posted rap lyrics which included racist language on Instagram has been found guilty of sending a grossly offensive message.
Chelsea Russell, 19, from Liverpool posted the lyric from Snap Dogg's I'm Trippin' to pay tribute to a boy who died in a road crash, a court heard.
...Prosecutors said her sentence was increased from a fine to a community order "as it was a hate crime".
...Liverpool Justice Centre, sitting at Sefton Magistrates' Court, heard Russell posted the lyrics to her account after the death of a 13-year-old in a road accident in 2017, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
...Prosecutor Angela Conlan said Russell's defence also argued her profile "wasn't public", but it had been proved in court that anyone could access it and "see the offensive language".
She said prosecutors also "sourced case law that showed that posting the profile on her account constituted sending it and making it public".
Russell was found guilty of sending a grossly offensive message by a public communication.
She was given an eight-week community order, placed on an eight-week curfew and told to pay costs of £500 and an £85 victim surcharge."

Maybe as a public relations gesture to apologize for the arrest of two peaceful black men who were there for a meeting without buying anything at a Philadelphia Starbucks and then asking to use the restroom. 
But if the company’s goal is to remove hidden prejudice from its employees’ minds, this “training” makes no sense at all.
The reason: despite many attempts to define it, no one knows what “implicit bias” is, and so no one has any idea what “training” might be useful to combat it.
...Much of the time the term is thrown around, even in scientific articles, without being defined.
When it is defined, different people define it differently. 
Yet training has been instituted at many colleges, universities, and corporations around the country...

"...For now, in preparation for Earth Day, let me present an “inconvenient weather fact” displayed graphically above of the annual US tornado count from 1954 to 2017 based on data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information.

In 2017, there were only 15 tornadoes in the US that registered in the strong to violent categories of F3, F4 or F5 (there were 13 F3 tornadoes, 2 F4s, and no F5s), which was the fewest annual number of F3+ tornadoes in more than 60 years going back to 1954 when NOAA started collecting annual US tornado data, and below the previous record low count of 17 F3+ tornadoes in 1987...
