1983 - A Soviet military officer, Stanislav Petrov, averted a potential worldwide nuclear war. He declared a false alarm after a U.S. attack was detected by a Soviet early warning system. It was later discovered the alarms had been set off when the satellite warning system mistakenly interpreted sunlight reflections off clouds as the presence of enemy missiles.

The Burning of Brett Kavanaugh

The Burning of Brett Kavanaugh:

Image result for flickr commons images u.s. constitutionWe have also lost track of the concept of innocent until proven guilty -- beyond reasonable doubt. This has been slipping away for quite a while now. The media have become our judge and jury; the more sensational and politically potent an accusation is, the more likely it will be seen as true, and no amount of correction will undo that.
What bothers me the most, however, is that we’ve lost all contact with common sense, with any desire to arrive at the truth.

She thinks: America adores me.
She thinks: America already chose me to be president once!
She thinks: Everyone is comparing me with Donald Trump and realizing I’m a better choice.
She is hoping for a call that will never come: an earnest, sobbing plea from the Democratic party to be their standard bearer in 2020.
How else to explain Clinton’s latest media blitzkrieg?...

The consequences are predictable: Service shortages and higher prices are inevitable when artificial caps prevent supply from growing to meet demand. Taxis experienced both problems, and now Uber and Lyft will, too.
Those high prices will only be worsened by the proposed $17.22 minimum wage for drivers—an average pay hike of more than 22 percent, some estimate. Consumers will bear that cost.
And that’s just to start.

Sorority's racially charged comments lead to calls for campus-wide 'sensitivity training' - The College Fix
"After some racially charged comments were overheard at a University of New Mexico sorority during a “welcome” event, students and staff are calling for “sensitivity training” across the board.
Remarks allegedly overheard by African-American students at the Kappa Kappa Gamma house include “black people get away from me” and “black people stop wearing grills.”
Brandi Stone of UNM’s African American Student Services said the comments “essentially […] came down to not feeling safe around black people.”
KRQE reports UNM students were “appalled” upon hearing of the comments...
Maybe if the sorority had done something like make “All White People Are Racist” hoodies the university wouldn’t have said a word … other than “it’s a free speech issue.”

How Dianne Feinstein is conspiring to destroy Brett Kavanaugh

How Dianne Feinstein is conspiring to destroy Brett Kavanaugh:

Image result for flickr commons images dianne feinsteinWho paid for Blasey Ford’s polygraph, and who is covering her legal bills? Who leaked her letter to The Washington Post? Katz and Demand Justice did not reply to requests for comment. Nor did Feinstein’s office.
But one thing is for sure: Feinstein and her former aide’s fingerprints are all over the smearing of Kavanaugh — and that’s an ironic shame, given that Feinstein was swept into Congress as a reaction to the then-Democrat Senate’s mishandling of the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas sex allegations. The San Francisco-based senator has made her own missteps some 25 years later.

Any way she wants to.
Which is a symptom of deeper corruption.

Arctic sea ice melt has turned the corner for 2018 | Watts Up With That?
"Not surprising that MSM has gone schtum about the remarkable persistence of their favorite “canary” not being dead yet.

This year’s min is greater then 2007 when AR4 was getting major push in MSM and Al Gore was trying to BS us all with his climate disinformation.
The alleged ‘death spiral’ and ‘runaway melting’ has been essentially not going anywhere for over a decade now.
Why isn’t this great climate news being told to the world?
I’ll be honest, the Arctic minimum has become so passe in the era of ever shrill pronouncements about “ice free Arctic”, “Arctic death spiral” etc, I forgot all about it.
As a metric for global warming, it certainly hasn’t lived up to predictions from 10 years ago., much less recent ones, such as this one from Peter Wadhams – Anthony"

The Ides of May: Brexit, Irexit, and the Shape of Europe to Come | Unexamined Premises

The Ides of May: Brexit, Irexit, and the Shape of Europe to Come | Unexamined Premises
"Since she succeeded David Cameron in the wake of the Brexit vote, the accidental British prime minister, Theresa May, has been trying without success to have things both ways.
See the source imageOn the one hand she's having to pretend to observe the wishes of the British public, which voted to leave the European Union, but her own inclination -- shared by many Tory Remainers -- is to keep fumbling the football until the clock runs out.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party, which is now led by an out-and-out communist in Jeremy Corbyn, is delighted with the whole mess.
Across the Irish Sea, Britain's ever-restive former colony, Ireland, is having its own troubles.
The withdrawal from the EU by the United Kingdom will mean that the rump state of Northern Ireland (whose votes Mrs. May needs to keep her in power, as shaky as her current hold on it is now) will require some sort of border with the Republic to the south.
...Poetically, one of the major sticking points over Britain's departure from the EU is the Irish border. Since the Good Friday Agreement... there have been no militarized checkpoints at the internal Irish line of division, but as the Brexit negotiations continue, the EU has been pushing for a hard customs border, which neither the Irish nor the British want..."

..."GE's balance sheet is a mess," said Gautam Khanna, an analyst for Cowen & Co.
"They don't generate a lot of cash, and they have a severely underfunded pension plan."...

Shelby Steele--Why the Left Is Consumed With Hate - WSJ

See the source imageWhy the Left Is Consumed With Hate - WSJ
"Even before President Trump’s election, hatred had begun to emerge on the American left—counterintuitively, as an assertion of guilelessness and moral superiority.
At the Women’s March in Washington the weekend after Mr. Trump’s inauguration, the pop star Madonna said, “I have thought an awful lot of blowing up the White House.”
Here hatred was a vanity, a braggadocio meant to signal her innocence of the sort of evil that, in her mind, the White House represented. (She later said the comment was “taken wildly out of context.”)
For many on the left a hateful anti-Americanism has become a self-congratulatory lifestyle.
“America was never that great,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently said.
See the source imageFor radical groups like Black Lives Matter, hatred of America is a theme of identity, a display of racial pride.
For other leftists, hate is a license.
Conservative speakers can be shouted down, even assaulted, on university campuses.
Republican officials can be harassed in restaurants, in the street, in front of their homes.
Certain leaders of the left—Rep. Maxine Waters comes to mind—are self-appointed practitioners of hate, urging their followers to think of hatred as power itself...
