Stimulus ‘boondoggle’: School board member details disastrous school computer giveaway
Stimulus ‘boondoggle’: School board member details disastrous school computer giveaway - EAGnews.org powered by Education Action Group Foundation, Inc.:
HOBOKEN, N.J. – When the Hoboken school leaders decided in 2010 to use a windfall of federal stimulus money to purchase laptops for all students in the city’s junior-senior high school, former board member Maureen Sullivan was the only one to vote against the measure.
Four years later, the district’s superintendent Mark Toback has deemed the initiative “unsustainable” and canceled the program, leaving school officials to explore options for recycling dozens of machines that are now collecting dust in a school storage closet.
“It was clear it was going to be a boondoggle and a disaster and that’s what it turned out to be,” Sullivan told EAGnews.
“The stimulus money came and it had to be soaked up … It was like, ‘It’s free money, let’s just spend it,’” she said of the board’s rush to dole out computers, which her colleagues on the board viewed as an opportunity to help the district’s mostly poor students keep up with their wealthier peers.
“There was just no planning or thinking things through logically,” she said. “In general, that’s how the school board operates.”

Bacon prices hit a new all-time high
Bacon prices hit a new all-time high | Fox News:
"Love bacon?
Now, you're going to have to pay more than ever to get your hands on it.
The average price of bacon across America has risen 14 percent since June of last year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Now bacon is going for a whopping $6.11 per pound, which is 41 percent higher than the per-pound price in June 2012.
In fact, according to the Huffington Post, bacon today is about 21 percent pricier than it was in the early 1980s after adjusting for inflation.
The three biggest factors affecting the current price are a porcine epidemic —a diarrhea virus killing pigs in the U.S. by the thousands—an ongoing drought that is raising pig feed prices, and a high demand, which would not surprise any one paying attention to the food scene for last few years.
Should bacon lovers be worried about a shortage?
In 2012, a British industry group said that a world shortage of pork and bacon was "unavoidable."
Britain's National Pig Association (NPA) says that pig herds in Europe are shrinking.
As if that isn’t bad enough, this trend was “being mirrored around the world.” "

Rangel gets racial: Tea party a bunch of 'white crackers' - Washington Times:
"New York Rep. Charlie Rangel wants the world to know:
Tea party members are a bunch of “white crackers.”
“It is the same group we faced in the South with those white crackers and the dogs and the police,” Mr. Rangel told the Daily Beast.
“They didn’t care about how they looked. It was just fierce indifference to human life that caused America to say enough is enough.”
House Republicans didn’t get off any easier.
The congressman likened them to terrorists:
“What’s going on is sabotage. Terrorists couldn’t do a better job than the Republicans are doing.”"

I love this guy!-------Amash after win: Ellis is ‘what’s wrong with politics’
Amash after win: Ellis is ‘what’s wrong with politics’ | WOODTV.com:
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD/AP) — After Republican U.S. Rep. Justin Amash beat challenger Brian Ellis in the Third Congressional District primary, he said Ellis’s campaign was “disgusting” and “despicable.”
The libertarian-leaning Amash was targeted by business groups as being too far outside the mainstream of his party. But Amash survived the challenge and is likely headed toward a third two-year term in the Republican-leaning seat that includes parts of five counties and the cities of Grand Rapids and Battle Creek.
Amash has made waves in Washington by bucking the GOP leadership. He is a favorite of grassroots and tea party activists.Ellis is an investment adviser who loaned $1 million to his campaign and received support from national, state and local Chambers of Commerce.
Amash had harsh words for his opponent at the end of his acceptance speech. He seemed upset that Ellis called earlier in the evening to concede the race, saying he declined the call.
“To Brian Ellis, you owe my family and this community an apology… for your disgusting, despicable, smear campaign,” Amash said toward the end of his victory speech. “You had the audacity to try to call me today after running a campaign that was called the nastiest in the country. I ran for office to stop people like you — to stop people who were more interested in themselves than in doing what’s best for their district.”
Amash also had strong words for former congressman Pete Hoekstra, who endorsed Ellis.
“I want to say to lobbyist Pete Hoekstra, you’re a disgrace,” he said. “I’m glad we could hand you one more loss before you fade into total obscurity and irrelevance.”
When speaking live to 24 Hour News 8 after his speech, Amash reiterated his earlier statements.
“(Ellis) ran a smear campaign. It was despicable. It was disgusting. And then he had the audacity to call me up and try to make nice. He’s what wrong with politics, people like him. And I stood up to these people. They lie, they smear, they distort, and then they think everything’s fine afterwards and it’s not fine,” Amash said.
“The people want honest representatives, people with integrity. And I’ll continue to do that. I’ll fight for liberty. I’ll follow the Constitution. And I’ll pay attention the details of legislation, not just the title,” he continued.

Eric Holder Makes a Startling Admission That Will Surprise No One:
"But, at least Holder is admitting what many have stated all along. Rather than act as he should as the lead attorney for America, he has worked as an activist and as Barack Obama’s personal attorney, doing his bidding and abusing his power to push the progressive agenda.
Perhaps we should not be surprised at Holder proudly wearing the label of activist 1000% and distorting his role of Attorney General in the process. After all, he did participate in an armed takeover of the ROTC office at Columbia University and his law firm defended terrorists who attacked and killed American citizens. When you look at his history, some may think the word activist is not a strong enough word to describe his actions and agenda."

Not so bright: CA bill would require bb guns to be painted bright colors - EAGnews.org powered by Education Action Group Foundation, Inc.:
"SACRAMENTO, Calif. – From the “You Can’t Make This Stuff Up” file, a bill currently in the California Legislature would require BB guns and Airsoft Pellet guns painted bright toy colors so they won’t be mistaken for real guns.
Coloring BB guns (“BB” stands for “ball bullet,”) in bright colors will only give parents and children the impression that they are children’s toys, rather than recreational and target sport guns.
And criminals will start painting their AK 47s hot pink.
Last year, Gov. Jerry Brown signed 11 gun control bills into law and vetoed seven. More gun bills are on the firing line this year — even banning some BB guns."

Is thinking now obsolete?:
"Talk-show host Geraldo Rivera says that there is no way Israel is winning the battle for world opinion.
But Israel is trying to win the battle for survival, while surrounded by enemies.
Might that not be more important?
Has any other country, in any other war, been expected to keep the enemy’s civilian casualties no higher than its own civilian casualties?
The idea that Israel should do so did not originate among the masses but among the educated intelligentsia.
In an age when scientists are creating artificial intelligence, too many of our educational institutions seem to be creating artificial stupidity."
