"John Robert Fox (1915-1944), posthumously received the Medal of Honor in 1997, for willingly sacrificing his life.
Citation:
For extraordinary heroism against an armed enemy in the vicinity of Sommocolonia, Italy, on December 26, 1944, while serving as a member of Cannon Company, 366th Infantry Regiment, 92nd Infantry Division.
During the preceding few weeks, Lieutenant Fox served with the 598th Field Artillery Battalion as a forward observer.
On Christmas night, enemy soldiers gradually infiltrated the town of Sommocolonia in civilian clothes, and by early morning the town was largely in hostile hands.
Commencing with a heavy barrage of enemy artillery at 0400 hours on December 26, 1944, an organized attack by uniformed German units began.
Being greatly outnumbered, most of the United States Infantry forces were forced to withdraw from the town, but Lieutenant Fox and some other members of his observer party voluntarily remained on the second floor of a house to direct defensive artillery fire.
At 0800 hours, Lieutenant Fox reported that the Germans were in the streets and attacking in strength.
He then called for defensive artillery fire to slow the enemy advance.
As the Germans continued to press the attack towards the area that Lieutenant Fox occupied, he adjusted the artillery fire closer to his position.
Finally he was warned that the next adjustment would bring the deadly artillery right on top of his position.
After acknowledging the danger, Lieutenant Fox insisted that the last adjustment be fired as this was the only way to defeat the attacking soldiers.
Later, when a counterattack retook the position from the Germans, Lieutenant Fox's body was found with the bodies of approximately 100 German soldiers.
Lieutenant Fox's gallant and courageous actions, at the supreme sacrifice of his own life, contributed greatly to delaying the enemy advance until other infantry and artillery units could reorganize to repel the attack.
His extraordinary valorous actions were in keeping with the most cherished traditions of military service, and reflect the utmost credit on him, his unit, and the United States Army."

"Having said that, we thought it would be a fun time to revisit the time that Tucker Carlson cornered a clueless liberal professor when it came to taxes. This professor is a self-proclaimed Socialist who says that the top 1% of Americans should pay between 70-90% of their income to the government."

Reason's "Most Engaging" Stories of 2017: No. 1 Will Blow Your Mind - Hit & Run : Reason.com:
"When it comes to online media, engagement—the minutes spent reading, watching, or listening—is the new likes.
With that in mind, I'm happy to share the 10 most-engaging stories from the thousands of articles we posted at reason.com this past year.
They cover the waterfront in terms of topics, takes, and temperament, but they are all energized by our principled libertarian belief in "Free Minds and Free Markets."
A plurality involve some form of state abuse of power, including literal violence against unarmed and innocent citizens and coercive force via insane regulations and occupational licensing requirements.
...Our top story of the year, which pulled the equivalent of over 71,000 hours of reader engagement, is a profound analysis of how ongoing panic over the presumed psychological and emotional fragility of children and young adults is a grave disservice to American youth..."
Here they are, in ascending order of "total engaged minutes" according our analytics program..."

13 scientific studies suggest ‘Little Ice Age’ looming:
"Global-warming diehards who converted their cause to “climate change” when the warming ceased a few years back are being dealt another blow as scientific forecasts of global cooling are about to take over.
“During 2017, 120 papers linking historical and modern climate change to variations in solar activity and its modulators (clouds, cosmic rays) have been published in scientific journals,” reported Kenneth Richard at NoTricksZone.
Richard compiled a list of multiple studies from the past few years drawing the same conclusion: It’s the sun’s activities that have a huge influence on whether earth’s temperatures vary.
Thirteen forecast global cooling.
The global-warming alarmists contend mankind’s use of fossil fuels is irreparably heating up the earth’s average temperatures.
Global warming has become an industry, with the buying and selling of “carbon credits” that grant permission to use carbon fuel, massive tax plans to pay for alternative energy programs and more..."

Number of cops killed near 50-year low in Trump's first year - Washington Times:
"President Donald Trump’s first year in office has coincided with a near 50-year low in a very grim statistic: The number of police officers killed in the line of duty.
A report from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, shows that 128 officers died in 2017. That number is a 10 percent decrease from 2016, when 141 officers were killed while wearing the badge."

"NINE YEARS AGO THIS MONTH—
Al Gore predicted the North Polar Ice Cap would be completely ice free in five years.
...According to Al Gore the North Pole should be completely melted by now.
Former Vice President Al Gore references computer modeling to suggest that the north polar ice cap may lose virtually all of its ice within the next seven years. “Some of the models suggest that there is a 75 percent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during some of the summer months, could be completely ice-free within the next five to seven years,” says Gore.
In January 2006, Al Gore posited “within the next 10 years, the world will reach a point of no return” and “a true planetary emergency” due to global warming..."
