Big spender?

Instapundit.com -: "At any rate, given that Ms Noonan believes, for some reason, that Ronald Reagan was a conservative and George W. Bush isn't, it's perhaps helpful to just compare the two: when Ronald Reagan left office in 1988 he was dunning us 18.1% of GDP to pay for a federal government that spent 21.2% of GDP. In 2004, the last year for which I could find numbers, George W. Bush had lowered our tax burden to 16.3% of GDP-- a level last reached in 1959--to pay for a government that spent 19.8 of GDP. "

Will the democrats support this?

Lawmaker urges Congress to exclude illegal residents from count: "A state lawmaker is joining calls at the federal level to ensure that congressional seats are apportioned according to the number of legal citizens in each state.
Senator Jud Gilbert today introduced a resolution urging Congress to send the states a constitutional amendment to address the issue."
Don't let anyone ever tell you that there's no difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Our tax dollars at work?

WZZM 13 Grand Rapids - Study: Have Unemployment Benefits, Be Unemployed Longer: "A new report says people who have unemployment stay without work for 21 weeks on average, compared to eight weeks for people who don't get it."?
"A new report" has Ch 13 "shocked". We need a study to tell us what we already know?

Serious charge, no proof.

The Beaufort Gazette: Justice Ginsburg reveals details of threat: "Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she and former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor have been the targets of death threats from the 'irrational fringe' of society, people apparently spurred by Republican criticism of the high court."
Impeach this liar! For a sitting Supreme Court Judge to say this is slander..... oops, she didn't say that? The newspaper just made it up? Big surprise.....

These guys will get the job done!

Developers planning a downtown RV park: "Although the ambitious Fisherman's Landing relocation plan of four years ago never took place, some vestiges of it might soon be coming to the shore of Muskegon Lake after all.
John Bultema II and George Bailey, partners in GLM Properties, have unveiled plans for a new lakefront resort catering to recreational vehicle campers. "
The best news to hit Muskegon in years!

Refreshing!

Jessica Simpson snubs President Bush - Celebrity News - MSNBC.com: "Concerned about politicizing her favorite charity, singer-actress Jessica Simpson Wednesday turned down a invitation to meet with President Bush, a snub that left Republicans dismayed."
Maybe she's brighter than we thought. Celebrities and politics are a lousy mix.

Can't we all just get along?

Suspects ready to die for '05 Bali blasts : "Three militants awaiting trial for their alleged role in last year's Bali bombings said Wednesday they considered themselves martyrs and are ready to die."
These fanatics will never stop on their own.

Why the news blackout?

Nothing new since Friday and many people know what's going on. Has the GR Catholic Diocese brought the hammer down?
WZZM 13 Grand Rapids - Missing money in Muskegon County: "Federal authorities are working with officials from the Grand Rapids Catholic Diocese to find out what happened to some missing money.

It involves several Catholic institutions in Muskegon County.

Catholic Social Services, St. Francis De Sales Church, Muskegon Family Care and the Greater Muskegon Catholic Schools Foundation are all missing money.

Diocese officials won't say how much money is missing but believe it is a large amount. Officials will also not say what they think happened to it.

A spokesperson for the Diocese says clients of these organizations and the congregation at the church should not be affected by the missing money. "

More ID theft

The ID Thief Under Your Roof [Fool.com: Commentary] March 7, 2006: "A real-life Hollywood-ready drama reveals the shocking truth about identity fraud and the relationship between victims and perpetrators."

Watch out!

The Torn-Up Credit Card Application: "You should probably buy a shredder today."
Amazing story of ID theft that can affect all us dudes or dudettes.

This sounds bad

The Australian: Russia, China defy US on Iran [March 15, 2006]: "Russia and China have rejected proposals from the US and other veto-wielding members of the UN Security Council for a statement demanding Iran clears up suspicions about its nuclear program, diplomats said yesterday."

She's our Senator?

DRUDGE REPORT 2006

If this is real, why are Democrats focusing on Bush?

ABC News: Renowned Bird Flu Expert Warns: Be Prepared: "'If bird flu becomes not bird flu but mutates into a form that can be transmitted between humans, we could then have a spread like wildfire across the globe,' Moscona said."
I thought their new focus was on "winning" slogans like "there's a better way", or "we can do better", or "Gore in '08!".

Maybe they could try "The Birds is Coming!....(no reflection on Sen. Byrd who, as a member of the KKK, made many black folks in south fear that "the Byrd're coming....)

Myths of Iraq

RealClearPolitics - Articles - Myths of Iraq: "During a recent visit to Baghdad, I saw an enormous failure. On the part of our media. The reality in the streets, day after day, bore little resemblance to the sensational claims of civil war and disaster in the headlines."

(it can't be) Bush's Fault!

Latest Business News and Financial Information Reuters.com: "U.S. stocks rose sharply on Tuesday, with the Dow and S&P 500 indexes hitting their highest in nearly five years as U.S. Treasury yields fell and record profit from Goldman Sachs Group Inc. boosted shares of financial companies."

Interesting conversion

SOXBLOG: " While Europe Slept by Bruce Bawer.
Bawer first achieved a measure of fame for 1998s "Stealing Jesus" which was a scathing indictment of America's religious right. In "Stealing Jesus", Bawer confessed such fear of the "claustrophobic narrowness" of America's fundamentalist Christians that he felt it necessary for him and his male partner to flee the country for the more friendly confines of Europe.

Unlike the Hollywood or academic glitterati who habitually make such threats, Bawer meant what he said and did indeed uproot himself to Europe. Showing an intellectual honesty too rare among self-styled intellectuals regardless of their politics, Bawer has discovered that Europe's fundamentalists are a lot worse and a lot more dangerous than America's even in their most fervent mode. Bawer doesn't flinch from the fact that Europe's fundamentalists are Muslims.

That's right. you've read correctly. An American intellectual has written a book that not only decries radical Islam while identifying the clear and present danger that it is, he went so far as to chastise himself for confusing a phantom menace (America's Christians) with the real deal. Bawer seems to see things clearly"

The MSM never knew?

Military Shuns Many Of Recruiting Age: "(AP) WASHINGTON Uncle Sam wants YOU, that famous Army recruiting poster says. But does he really? Not if you're a Ritalin-taking, overweight, Generation Y couch potato or some combination of the above."
The ignorance of the leftist media never ceases to stun. They are shocked, shocked... that our military has standards? mutter...mutter..mutter....
And how'bout this gem from acadamea"

Some experts are skeptical.
Previous Defense Department studies have found that 75 percent of young people are ineligible for military service, noted Charles Moskos of Northwestern University. While the professor emeritus who specializes in military sociology says it is "a baloney number," he acknowledges he has no figures to counter it.
Gotta love "skeptical experts" without a clue.......

Proof there is a God?

A less destructive path?

There is no law, only power, politics, and money: "Here's my simple proposal to the Michigan House of Representatives, now that the Senate has made a move to raise the minimum wage in response to recent polls that show that even 60% of Republicans support the idea, and to take away the motivation for the signature gathering of the ballot initiative.
COMBINE the Repeal SBT legislation also pending before the House for a separate vote into one"
If the GOPers must kill jobs with a minumum wage increase, this is the best proposal I've seen to put a bit of lipstick on a pig.

"Hoosiers" with that horrible New Jersey accent...

...but it is a cool story.

NJ.com's Printer-Friendly Page: "This is about as 'tall a tall tale' as the NCAA Tournament will produce. The Monmouth University basketball team leaves for Dayton today to take on Hampton in the tournament's opening-round game, the elimination struggle between the two teams least regarded by the selection committee and, therefore, matched to earn the 64th spot in the tournament proper.

This is a great story. The coach found the kid at the movies!

It's tough being a GOPer...

.... but it's gotta be tougher being a thinking Demo.

Instapundit.com -: "'Suffice it to say that George Bush needs to talk about much more than the global war on terror to float my boat.'
Yeah, if the Democrats stopped harping on the war, they'd do a lot better. Their continual war-baiting merely serves to remind a lot of people who are unhappy with Bush of why they don't like the Democrats either. Bush's best hope is that the Democrats won't be smart enough to figure that out."
Doesn't seem that's gonna happen....

Remind anyone of Germany in the 30s?

Focus: How liberal Britain let hate flourish - Sunday Times - Times Online: "Is this how moderate Islam has ended up being overshadowed by fanatics in Britain? Has the politically correct Establishment made the fatal mistake of ignoring extremists?
THE poisonous progress of Hamza, and the authorities slow reaction to it, reflects the wider rise of Islamic extremism in Britain and the sidelining of moderates"
Read it. This is happening everywhere.

Ending on a good note-maybe?

Ending on a good note: "Jannie Scott, who's proud of her status as the only female African-American pro team owner in the nation, said after Thursday's home game against Yakama that her goal was to 'make it through this season' and then sit down with community leaders and sponsors to determine the team's future. "
I always get ginchy when they want to "sit down with community leaders".

Big!

Harris to make 'major announcement' - OrlandoSentinel.com: State News: "Rep. Katherine Harris fueled already rampant speculation about the status of her campaign for the U.S. Senate when she released a statement Saturday promising a 'major announcement' about her future this week."
Is the Senate at risk for the GOPers?

I'll be saving deleted threads

Last night there was an interesting thread about the lack of coverage by local media of accusations of malfeasance by local officials. Apparently, the M Live folks find our interest in truth offensive. And like so many in the "liberal free speech" media, they opt for cover-up over, well, free speech. A good example was the now deleted Whitelake fire district post that was a lie and quickly shot down by posters. That works! Out the liars don't cover them up. We deserve a place to express questions and demand answers about our elected and non-elected officials.

MLive.com: Muskegon Town Talk Forum: "8322. Fire Chief
by Brain, 3/12/06 10:34 ET
Seems as if the media won't print the truth about the faboulous fire chief in whitehall being fired. The media has been scared of him since he moved over here. I say the faster we can get him out of our community the better we will be. Hope he enjoys the unemployment line because thats where he belongs. No one has yet been able to name one good thing that he has ever done. Bring the old deputy chief back and watch how quick things get turned around"

It's Bush's fault!

Professors paid not to teach - 03/12/06 - The Detroit News: "Michigan universities paid more than 500 professors $23.2 million to be absent from the classroom during the 2004-05 school year, even as the state's economy nosedived and parents and students struggled to pay double-digit tuition hikes."
But students and parents support the profs and blame the "niggardly" taxpayers.

Higher minimum wage is a job killer for Michigan!

When bad ideas make good politics, Mich. is big loser - 03/12/06 - The Detroit News: "'Is she,' I asked her spokeswoman, 'insane?'
I mean, here's a state ranking dead last nationwide in job creation, whose business tax rate is uncompetitive, whose corporate giants are fighting for their collective lives and whose small business sector needs all the help it can get."
This is not about helping poor people, it is about killing jobs while politicians pander. Despicable!
