The Dog Ate Global Warming

The Dog Ate Global Warming
"Now begins the fun. Warwick Hughes, an Australian scientist, wondered where that “+/–” came from, so he politely wrote Phil Jones in early 2005, asking for the original data.
Jones’s response to a fellow scientist attempting to replicate his work was, “We have 25 years or so invested in the work. Why should I make the data available to you, when your aim is to try and find something wrong with it?”

Reread that statement, for it is breathtaking in its anti-scientific thrust.
In fact, the entire purpose of replication is to “try and find something wrong.”
The ultimate objective of science is to do things so well that, indeed, nothing is wrong."

French police bulldoze immigrant camp near Calais

French police bulldoze immigrant camp near Calais
"French police razed a squalid camp used by illegal immigrants in scrubland near the English Channel port of Calais on Tuesday, using backhoes and buzz saws to clear away the precarious dwellings of a fragile population, mostly Afghan minors, who were led away stunned and sometimes sobbing.
The destruction of the site - known as 'the Jungle' - ends the migrants' dreams of a new life across the Channel in Britain but signifies what France hopes will be a new era in European immigration control. People who lived there tried night after night to sneak across the Channel.
'The law of the jungle cannot last eternally,' said Immigration Minister Eric Besson, who ordered the destruction of what he called 'a lawless zone where smugglers reign.'"

Steven Chu: Americans Are Like ‘Teenage Kids’ When It Comes to Energy
“The American public…just like your teenage kids, aren’t acting in a way that they should act,” Dr. Chu said. “The American public has to really understand in their core how important this issue is.” (In that case, the Energy Department has a few renegade teens of its own.)"

Oh yeah, that's how our "betters" in Obama's government view us.

Meebee we ought to get a clue?

As Host of the Winter Olympics, Canada Acts More Like a Guard

As Host of the Winter Olympics, Canada Acts More Like a Guard
"Count the American speedskater Catherine Raney among the athletes, coaches and officials of several sports surprised by Canada’s approach to hosting the Winter Games in February.
Raney, who spent more than seven years living in Canada and training with the Canadian national team, was told after the 2006 Olympics that the Canadians did not want foreign athletes training with them leading to the 2010 Games in Vancouver.
She and many other foreign athletes had expected to spend quite a bit of time practicing at the Olympic sites, but have been granted only minimal access.
They’re playing nasty,” said Raney"

NHS told to find ways of saving £20 billion

NHS told to find ways of saving £20 billion
"Mr Burnham told the King's Fund that detailing the costs of hospital treatment “will set out the scale of the efficiency and productivity challenge year on year, building up over time, with the most demanding savings coming later'.
He added that this would 'begin the process of showing how we realise the challenge of finding £15 billion to £20 billion of savings” in the period up to 2014, according to the Financial Times.
The savings are designed to help the NHS cope with greater demand for its services from the UK's ageing population and the higher cost of drugs and treatment because of medical advances."

Muskegon County residents urged to get seasonal flu shots

Muskegon County residents urged to get seasonal flu shots
"And businesses such as Walgreens are advertising on their store signs that they have flu shot clinics.
Meanwhile, Dori Peters, public information officer for Public Health-Muskegon County, said Hackley Community Care Center of Muskegon and Muskegon Family Care in Muskegon Heights are authorized by the federal government to administer flu vaccines.
Seasonal flu vaccines will be available starting Sept. 28 at the county health department for Medicaid patients, or for those who want to pay out of pocket. Costs are $27 for shots, $35 for nasal sprays.
Diana Portell, clinical manager for Hackley Community Care Center, said her organization has received 100 nasal spray flu vaccines for patients who already are registered with the clinic.
She said traditional vaccine shots, which are administered with a needle, should be arriving next week.
'As soon as we get them in, anyone registered here as a patient can come in and get the shot without an appointment,' Portell said."

Insane killer escapes on field trip to county fair

Insane killer escapes on field trip to county fair
"A criminally insane killer from eastern Washington is on the run after escaping during a field trip to the county fair that his mental hospital organized.
Why such a dangerous person was out in public was a question many, including Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire, were asking as authorities searched for Phillip Arnold Paul.
Authorities at Eastern State Hospital, where Paul is a patient, are being criticized for allowing him to visit the fair despite his violent criminal past and a history of trying to escape.
'Why was he allowed to take such a trip?' the governor said Friday. 'Why did they go to a location that was so heavily populated with families?'"

The Media Genius Of Andrew Breitbart

The Media Genius Of Andrew Breitbart
"There is something desperately wrong with the mainstream media.
And that's why we did the rollout the way that we did, because we wanted to not just expose ACORN for being corrupt, we wanted to expose that the mainstream media would treat this exactly like they treated the Van Jones story.
And that's ignored until the consequences got too great for them to ignore."

Man accused of beheading wife to use psychiatric defense

Man accused of beheading wife to use psychiatric defense
"BUFFALO, N.Y. — A man accused of beheading his wife at the Muslim-American television station they founded is likely to pursue a psychiatric defense in the murder case.
Muzzammil Hassan is scheduled to be tried in January for the killing of Aasiya Hassan at the offices of Bridges TV in the Buffalo suburb of Orchard Park.
During a pretrial hearing in Erie County Court Friday, attorney James Harrington says a civil wrongful death suit filed by Aasiya’s estate is holding up psychiatric testing.
But he says he’s considering a defense of extreme emotional disturbance focusing on his client’s state of mind at the time he’s accused of killing his wife in February.
The Pakistani-born Hassans started the network in part to dispel Muslim stereotypes."

Birth control could help combat climate change

Birth control could help combat climate change
"Giving contraceptives to people in developing countries could help fight climate change by slowing population growth, experts said Friday.
More than 200 million women worldwide want contraceptives, but don't have access to them, according to an editorial published in the British medical journal, Lancet. That results in 76 million unintended pregnancies every year.
If those women had access to free condoms or other birth control methods, that could slow rates of population growth, possibly easing the pressure on the environment, the editors say."

Baby 'Bigots'

Baby 'Bigots'
"The Ku Klux Klan may start marketing a line of baby bigot wear if they fall for Newsweek's Sept. 14, cover story, 'See Baby Discriminate.'

According to the editors at the 'we've fallen for him and we can't get up' Barack Obama fan magazine: 'Kids as young as 6 months judge others based on skin color.'
Thanks to Newsweek, we now know why babies are comfortable in hoods-at least white ones-both babies and hoods, that is.

If you expected Newsweek to include a photo of a black baby with a white baby to illustrate its cover story, you probably waste too much money on lottery tickets."

Obama: Legalize illegals to get them health care

Obama: Legalize illegals to get them health care
"President Obama said this week that his health care plan won't cover illegal immigrants, but argued that's all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage.

He also staked out a position that anyone in the country legally should be covered - a major break with the 1996 welfare reform bill, which limited most federal public assistance programs only to citizens and longtime immigrants."

New Government Policy Imposes Strict Standards on Garage Sales Nationwide

New Government Policy Imposes Strict Standards on Garage Sales Nationwide
"Americans who slap $1 pricetags on their used possessions at garage sales or bazaar events risk being slapped with fines of up to $15 million, thanks to a new government campaign.
The 'Resale Round-up,' launched by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, enforces new limits on lead in children's products and makes it illegal to sell any items that don't meet those limits or have been recalled for any other reason.
The strict standards were set in the 2008 Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act after a series of high-profile recalls of Chinese-made toys."

HOUSE VOTES TO DEFUND ACORN. So the Senate and House have both voted. Will Obama sign? UPDATE: …

HOUSE VOTES TO DEFUND ACORN. So the Senate and House have both voted. Will Obama sign?

UPDATE: Reader Kevin O’Brien smells a rat:

It’s a typical these-voters-are-such-rubes stunt; the House and Senate voted to defund ACORN on different bills.
The Senate bill is a housing bill, the House bill the federal takeover of student loans.

Each bill will wind up in conference committee where the ACORN ban can be quietly stripped out, behind closed doors and secure from prying eyes.
Then the org can keep on doing its important work of voter fraud and pandering to presumed pedophiles.

The most useful principle to hold close when considering members of Congress: they’re all crooks.

We’ll have to keep paying attention then."

Be ever vigilant!

Are Michigan film incentives too lucrative? Some lawmakers call for reduction or killing tax breaks for movie makers

Are Michigan film incentives too lucrative? Some lawmakers call for reduction or killing tax breaks for movie makers
"But the incentives will cost the state an estimated $100 million this year and about $150 million in 2010, according to the Senate Fiscal Agency. While that amount has a few calling for a repeal, most opponents want a lesser tax credit or an annual cap. A proposal this spring called for reducing the credit to 35 percent and capping the annual amount to $50 million. The credit for infrastructure -- building a production facility or sound stage, for example -- would increase from 25 percent to 30 percent but raise the minimum investment required.
'It (tax credits program) cannot continue as it is,' said Sen. Mark Jansen, R-Gaines Township. 'What we have right now cannot be sustained.'"

This is an insane waste of money!

Though not much more insane than most of the democrat proposals.

GOP rivals in governor's race say Mike Bouchard's announcement of Terri Lynn Land as running mate indicates campaign is 'struggling'

GOP rivals in governor's race say Mike Bouchard's announcement of Terri Lynn Land as running mate indicates campaign is 'struggling'
"In a move that strikes GOP rivals as either gimmick or desperation, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard insists to the contrary: Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land is the perfect teammate for the 2010 gubernatorial race.
'I realized I don't have a short list,' Bouchard said Wednesday in Grand Rapids, speaking of prospective candidates for lieutenant governor. 'I have one person on the list.'"

Interesting fact is Bouchard is on Hoekstra's short list for running mate... after Pete wins the primary.

The American Spectator : The Absurdity Meter Blow Up

The American Spectator : The Absurdity Meter Blow Up
"Moreover, Jimmy is no paragon on the question of race baiting. At least two of his biographers -- Betty Glad, three decades ago, and Steven F. Hayward, four years ago -- record that Jimmy played the race card in his early days in Georgia politics. His 1970 campaign for governor went so far as to distribute racially charged literature to the Ku Klux Klan. One could argue that Jimmy is playing the race card again, this time playing to the sense of black grievance. In both instances, he has encouraged ugly passions."

Liberal Lies About National Health Care: Bonus Joe Wilson Edition

Liberal Lies About National Health Care: Bonus Joe Wilson Edition
"There are a number of theories about why America's greatest living statesman shouted 'You lie!' at that juncture, but mine is that Wilson said it because Obama told a big, fat stinking lie.

Every single American knows it's a lie. But liberals take pleasure in repeating it -- and then condescendingly accusing anyone who doesn't accept their lie of being a toothless, illiterate racist."

Act From Which An Acorn Grew, And An Economy Died, Lives On

Act From Which An Acorn Grew, And An Economy Died, Lives On
"Acorn found its way into the mortgage business through the Community Reinvestment Act, the 1977 legislation that community groups have used as a cudgel to force lenders to lower their mortgage underwriting standards in order to make more loans in low-income communities.
Often the groups, after making protests under CRA, were then rewarded by banks with contracts to act as mortgage counselors in low-income areas in return for dropping their protests against the banks.
In one particularly lucrative deal, 14 major banks eager to put CRA protests behind them in 1993 signed an agreement to have Acorn administer a $55 million, 11-city lending program. It was precisely such agreements that helped turn Acorn from a network of small local groups into a national player."

Steelcase plans to open third plant in Mexico
Steelcase Inc. said Wednesday it will open a new chair-manufacturing plant in Reynosa, Mexico, by early next year, just weeks after announcing plans to shut down its big Pyramid office building in Gaines Township.

Hasn't the education-political complex promised us that our gillions of "education" tax dollars would deliver jobs...here in Michigan?

Maybe we might ask what EMPLOYERS are looking for if we're looking for EMPLOYEES?

Rather than the political-educational lobbiests?

Subway sandwich shop opens downtown

Subway sandwich shop opens downtown

"However, difficulties in completing the first-level Hines Building space for the 89-seat restaurant kept it from opening for the summer festival season. Gawkowski had planned to have the Subway open prior to Muskegon Bike Time in mid-July.

However, his opening comes just prior to Baker College of Muskegon's unveiling of the Culinary Institute of Michigan, one block south on Third Street. By the end of the month, Baker's professional food school will have up to 400 students and staff -- all of which are new, potential downtown customers for a shop like Subway."
