Illinois: Pension Debacle Poster Child

» Illinois: Pension Debacle Poster Child - Big Government

Today, Illinois’ unfunded pension liability is estimated to be $78 billion.

How did we get here?

Let’s call it the “Four Rules of Too” for public employees whose salaries are too high; contributions are too low; plans are too bloated; and retirement is too early.

As the following chart regarding the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) shows, over the last decade teacher salaries have risen by 7% per year or 96% compounded and the pension cost (Pension Benefit Obligation) taxpayers are responsible for has gone up 116%.

Why Is Wall Street So Addicted to Prestige Colleges?

Why Is Wall Street So Addicted to Prestige Colleges? - CNBC
"The snobbery is very precise: you have to go to Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford and, perhaps, Wharton.
(I do have my Wharton "diploma", fuck you losers....)
And the reason for this is not the belief that these schools provide the best education—in fact, many of those evaluating job candidates were critical of the education offered by these schools.

Rather, it seems that the elite firms are simply using getting into Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Standford and Wharton as a proxy for intelligence."

Well that "proxy for intelligence" worked out well....right?

And they're not kind to Cornell, UoM....and MSU is the equivalent of spinach on your teeth at the Queen's tea.

Hero Col. West

Col West is from southern Florida, a bastion of the Democratic Party.
He won in a walk. This video is worth the viewing.

This new Congressman was an extremely popular commander in Iraq .
He was forced to retire because during an intense combat action a few of his men were captured.
At the same time his men had captured one of the guys who were with the Iraqis who captured his men. Knowing that time was crucial and his interrogators were not getting anywhere with the prisoner COL West took matters into his own hands.
He burst into the room and demanded thru an interpreter that the prisoner tell him where his men were being taken.
The prisoner refused so COL West took out his pistol and placed it into the prisoner's crotch and fired.
Then the COL told the prisoner that the next shot would not miss.
So the prisoner said he would show where the American service members were being taken.
The Americans were rescued.
Some one filed a report on incorrect handling of prisoners.
COL West was forced to retire.
COL West was just elected in November 2010 to Congress from Florida .
During the elections he was part of a panel on how to handle or how to relate to Muslims.
You will see his answer here.

Here is one of the new congressmen from Florida explaining very definitively in just over a minute the truth about Islam.
Please watch and if you agree; please forward it to your friends, if you disagree, please hit the "delete" button.

Michigan Carpenters’ Union Constructing a Fake Dispute

Michigan Carpenters’ Union Constructing a Fake Dispute [Michigan Capitol Confidential]
"the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters is no longer playing by these rules.

Since last summer, the union has been organizing demonstrations against an employer that MRCC members do not work for — supposedly on behalf of construction workers that the union does not represent — and using demonstrators who are not employees of the company being targeted.
Indeed, the demonstrators are frequently not MRCC members either, nor even construction workers at all.

Welcome to “bannering,” a new method being deployed by Big Labor bosses who wish to continue exerting their influence over a marketplace where employers, customers and workers have turned sharply against using union labor."

Does Egypt Miss Dubya? Misunderestimating Democracy’s Appeal
"When Barack Obama first ran for the White House, a key argument he made was that he could “heal” America’s battered image in the eyes of the world, especially with Arabs, in the wake of the occupation of Iraq and other Bush administration policies.
In June 2009, he gave a much ballyhooed speech in Cairo that the White House dubbed a “new beginning.”

Despite this new beginning, the administration has been largely on the sidelines during the tumult in Egypt, little able to affect or even stay ahead of the events.
One reason may be that the U.S. is actually less popular in Egypt today than it was during the Bush years"

Public-Sector Unions Fight to Keep Bloated Benefits [Mackinac Center]
"Between Gov. Rick Snyder’s call for a substantial business tax cut and a $1.8 billion state overspending budget gap, lawmakers are looking for places to save.
.....However, the unions rely on data from allies in academia and government who often look only at salaries when comparing private- and public-sector compensation.
In fact, it’s skyrocketing public-sector fringe benefits that are behind much of the disparity.

“Total compensation” properly includes benefits like paid leave, retirement contributions, health insurance and more.
In each of these, public-sector benefits tend to be far more generous"
