Sowell: Blacks and Republicans

Sowell: Blacks and Republicans Commentary
"Yet another area in which Democrats are boxed in politically is their making job protection for members of teachers' unions more important than improving education for students in the public schools.
No one loses more from this policy than blacks, for many of whom education is their only chance for economic advancement.
But none of this matters so long as Republicans who want the black vote think they have to devise earmarked benefits for blacks, instead of explaining how Republicans' general principles, applied to all Americans, can do more for blacks than the Democrats' welfare state approach."

As long as GOPers refuse to articulate their message if they even have a message), they will face Tea Party challengers in every primary.

Normal Interest Rates Would be a Disaster for U.S. Debt - Les Jones
"None of this can go on forever.
The Fed can’t print money forever.
The U.S. can’t borrow huge fractions of GDP forever.
Austerity is coming.
The only question in my mind now is whether we’ll have a currency collapse and hyperinflation first."

Ignoring Death Threats to Wisconsin Politicians Is Media Bias

Ignoring Death Threats to Wisconsin Politicians Is Media Bias - Big Journalism

"Three questions for you.
1. Do you think of Republicans and the Tea Party as dangerous, violent extremists?
2. Do you think the Wisconsin protests over GOP Governor Scott Walker’s move to strip public sector employees of collective bargaining were peaceful?
3. Do you scoff at the right wing notion that mainstream media like the New York Times, the TV networks and NPR have a liberal media bias against the conservatives?

If you answered ‘yes’ to all three of those questions, then let me ask you one more …
Why isn’t the mainstream media talking about the death threats against Republican politicians in Wisconsin?"

UNION THUGS DESTROY RECALL PETITIONS

THUGS DESTROY RECALL PETITIONS Newsradio 620
Charlie Sykes:
"Upon arrival, members of the recall committee were encircled by union protesters carrying signs and a leader with a mega phone who began chanting and ranting loudly.
They packed in tightly around the petition collection table so as to prevent those attempting to sign from doing so.
At one point, a pro union protester, pretending to be interested in signing the petition, wrote profanity across a partially collected petition form, than began ripping up the completed petitions that were in close proximity.

The policemen who were there, and who were standing in close proximity to these events as they unfolded, did nothing to assist those collecting the petitions as they were being destroyed, despite such an action being a Felony under Wisconsin law.
Police also did nothing to clear the walk way for citizens that wanted to sign the petitions.
Recall Committee members received many phone calls the following day from Merill area citizens who stated that they showed up to sign the petition, but were too afraid to get out of their vehicles and approach the recall table."

Medicare and Medicaid Made $70 Billion in ‘Improper Payments’ Last Year—More Than All Spending by Homeland Security and State Departments Combined
CNSnews.com: "The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services—the federal health-care agency that is a key bureaucracy in implementing Obamacare—made at least $70.5 billion in “improper payments” last year.
These improper federal health-care payments amounted to more than the combined total of $68.3 billion spent by the entire Homeland Security and the State departments last year"

"‘We can’t negotiate with people we haven’t hired’

The Michigan Education Association announced that it will go to court over the district’s decision to not bargain over the 2011-12 contract.
The union argues that even though the old contracts expire on June 30, they should remain in effect until a new contract can be negotiated with the new school board.
Pelham doesn’t buy the union’s argument.
“We haven’t hired anybody,” he said.
“We can’t negotiate with people we haven’t hired.”"

Averting the Washington Monument ploy

RAHN: Averting the Washington Monument ploy - Washington Times
If your accountant told your family that you are spending 40 percent more than you are earning and that your borrowing limits have been reached, how would you cut your expenditures?

Would you stop buying food and not pay your mortgage and utilities, or would you first cut out entertainment, such as movies, sports events, cultural performances, nice restaurants and vacation trips?

Rational people would do the latter, but government bureaucrats often do the equivalent of the former.

This is known as the Washington Monument Ploy, which got its name when a national parks director shut down the Washington Monument and Grand Canyon for two weeks in 1969 to protest budget cuts, rather than cutting administrative costs, deferring maintenance and curtailing new projects."

Wis. unions rush to get deals in place - Washington Times
"School boards and local governments across Wisconsin are rushing to reach agreements with unions before a new law takes effect that will remove their ability to collectively bargain over nearly all issues other than minimal salary increases.

Secretary of State Doug La Follette said Monday he decided to delay publication of the law until the latest day possible, March 25, to give those local governments as much time as possible to reach agreements.
The law doesn’t take effect until the day after Mr. La Follette publishes it.

Gov. Scott Walker asked Mr. La Follette to publish the law on Monday, but the Democratic secretary of state, who called the new law the biggest change in labor management history in 50 years, said he didn’t see any emergency that warranted his doing that."

On Wisconsin! The Weekly Standard
"What happened in Wisconsin has broad implications.
The state is only one of many that face massive deficits following years of irresponsible spending—in Wisconsin, $3.6 billion over the next two years.
Walker ran for governor last fall on reducing that spending and balancing the budget.
He won with more than 52 percent of the vote.
So he proposed a budget repair bill to begin that process."

Excellent analysis.

Into the mind of liberal self delusion

Letters: Seek the real truth about Wisconsin MLive.com
Teachers and other public employees have been staging huge protests in the Wisconsin capital in opposition to Gov. Scott Walker’s attempts to take away the right of collective bargaining.
On the comics page, Mallard Fillmore is outraged.

He has nothing but contempt for these protesters.

They are a bunch of vicious, greedy, union bullies carrying signs showing the governor in the crosshairs, and waving posters that say, “Wanted: Walker, DEAD or alive!”
But could it be that those signs were planted by conservative union-haters in order to make the real protesters look bad?
It seemed like a good idea to Mark Williams, a conservative radio personality.
He suggested to his listeners that they infiltrate the protests at the Madison capital wearing SEIU T-shirts. (SEIU stands for Service Employees International Union.)
They should carry signs under their shirts that say rude things like “Screw the taxpayer” and “You OWE me,” and they should pull them out for the cameras.
“Timing is important,” Williams explains, “because they will take them away from us.”
He ends his online post with this optimistic note: “Even if it becomes known that we are plants, the quotes and pictures will linger as de facto truth.”
The real protesters seemed like a mannerly bunch.
My guess is that the signs Mallard Fillmore screeches about were, indeed, plants, but so what?
All it takes is a few Mallard Fillmores to establish the phony signs as “de facto truths.”
How tawdry.

My response:
A quite despicable distraction from an oblivious MoveOn.org believer.
Please Ms. Pastoor, tell us of Mark William's radio show and the station that carries his show.
Please Ms. Pastoor, provide one tiny bit of proof that any disgusting union sign or mindless damage to public property was planted by anyone other the union supporting thugs.
Please Ms. Pastoor, tell us again that the millions of dollars of damage to the Wisconsin state capital and the hundreds of filthy signs were perpetrated on the good citizens of Wisconsin by a non-existent radio host and a cartoon character.
Please Ms. Pastoor!
And to the "professional" at The Chronicle who approved this delusional rant, Shame!

Stumbles by Gray disillusion many in D.C. - Washington Times
"D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Quite simply, DC gets the "leadership" its citizens vote for.
Just as Muskegon, Muskegon Heights and Muskegon county have the "leadership" and "vision" its citizens demand.
The results ought not be surprising.

Progressives promise alternatives to Gov. Rick Snyder's budget in gatherings Monday MLive.com

They promise to propose specific reforms they say would 'fix Michigan's broken government.'"
