Snyder to enter brewing Medicaid battle

Snyder to enter brewing Medicaid battle | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com
"Gov. Rick Snyder will fire the first shot in the next health care skirmish Thursday when he recommends in his budget presentation to the Legislature whether Michigan should open Medicaid to as many as half a million more residents.
Under the 2010 Affordable Care Act, the federal government has promised to pay all costs for three years for residents added to the federal health insurance program for low-income people in states that raise income eligibility.
Federal payments would decline to 90 percent from 2017 to 2020 and would never go lower, according to the law.
The long-term addition of 400,000 to 500,000 Medicaid recipients would result in an additional $1.5 billion to $2 billion a year in federal health spending in Michigan. "

Beware the union-hijacked parent groups

Beware the union-hijacked parent groups - EAGnews.org :: Education Research, Reporting, Analysis and Commentary
"Leading the city contingent to Washington was “parent” activist Zakiyah Ansari, who’s become the leading face of the union’s job-protection drive.
Ansari represents two organizations — the Alliance for Quality Education (or AQE), where she is advocacy director, and New Yorkers for Great Public Schools, for whom she is a spokesperson.
Her role becomes more clear when you learn that both outfits are teacher-union-backed groups posing as organizations speaking on behalf of parents.
(Some of the money comes from the city United Federation of Teachers, some from its parent, the New York State United Teachers.)
A third group, Journey 4 Justice, organized and financed the DC trip.
It’s yet another union-backed entity using black and brown faces to front the unions’ jobs-protection agenda."

Detroit group asks Supreme Court to strike down affirmative action bans across nation

"“Proposal 2 and Proposition 209 have turned black, Latina/o and Native American residents into second-class citizens," said George B. Washington, a second attorney for BAMN.
"Racial minorities are now the only groups who cannot ask the universities to adopt admissions programs that will make it possible for their children to attend their state universities.
"These laws have driven down minority admissions by one third or more at the University of Michigan and at the University of California at the very moment the country is becoming majority minority.”

Sounding the Alarm about Smart Meters Smart Grid

Sounding the Alarm about Smart Meters Smart Grid with Curtis Bennett and David Chalk AxXiom For Liberty Live! | AxXiom for Liberty

What is a “smart” meter?
“Smart” Meters are digital utility meters that send customers’ detailed usage information to the utility using a radio-frequency transmitter (or over the power lines in the case of Powerline Carrier (PLC) systems.  The meter also contains other capabilities, such as remote shut-off. They are part of a larger plan to change the electricity grid to a “smart” grid–though there is controversy about whether the customer meter is actually crucial to that change. Electric smart meters are replacing older analog style meters. . .

Can Robert Menendez survive?

Can Robert Menendez survive? - Ginger Gibson and John Bresnahan - POLITICO.com
"In a state with a colorful history, it takes a lot for a New Jersey politician to cross the line into political toxicity.
Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez has found himself at the center of a growing controversy, with accusations swirling of a questionable friendship with a Florida eye surgeon being investigated for Medicare fraud, improper flights to the Dominican Republic and alleged patronizing of prostitutes — including underage girls — while in the Caribbean nation.
In some states, these allegations — and the fact the Senate Ethics Committee has joined federal investigators in looking into the explosive claims — would be enough to sink Menendez.
But in New Jersey, that may not be enough to topple the Hudson County political boss, who runs the political machine for a part of Jersey known for being rough and tumble and who easily won reelection last year."

Casual Sex on Facebook. It's a thing.

Casual Sex on Facebook. It's a thing. | Love + Sex - Yahoo! Shine
"Three unidentified California college buddies have developed a Facebook app called Bang With Friends to connect people who want to have sex with each other.
Here's how it works: People anonymously select those on their friend list who they'd like to sleep with, then the app notifies the two people if they've selected each other.
The app only launched last week but it's already racked up over 20,000 users and facilitated 1,000 hookups, according to The Daily Beast.
The goal is to take the rejection out of asking a totally random person on your friend list for sex (because a request like that is always a tad awkward) and to "cut to the chase" (because who has time to date anymore?)
“[Sex] should be something you’re expressive about, that you’re comfortable with, and if there’s a beautiful woman or a handsome man that you’re interested in, you shouldn’t hold back,” said one of the app’s creators. “We’re just giving you closer access to knowing the truth."
