Citadel: Survivalists build city-fortress with mandatory weapon ownership — RT
"But those who are proposing the establishment of the Citadel say that all of the city’s residents would have to own an AR-15 rifle, 1,000 rounds of ammunition and enough supplies to withstand a collapse of society.
And since AR-15s have become difficult to obtain and would be outlawed if Congress reinstates the 1994 ban on assault weapons, the fortress would have its own factory to produce them."

The Federal-State Crackup.

MARIO LOYOLA: The Federal-State Crackup.
For decades, Democrats and Republicans alike have invested heavily in governance schemes that erode the Constitution’s separation of powers and mar its proper functioning. The Federal judiciary has uniformly rubber-stamped these schemes. The consequence has been an unsustainable spree of borrowing, spending and overregulation at the Federal level, cyclical fiscal crises at the state level, and less accountable and less representative government at every level.
These governance schemes are generally of two kinds: one erodes the separation of powers between Federal and state governments, while the other erodes the separation of powers within the Federal government. In the first category is “cooperative federalism”, whereby the Federal government uses monopoly powers to coerce and subvert the prerogatives of state governments. In the other is Congress’s delegation of vast rule-making authority to administrative agencies.
These two categories of concern are often treated as being entirely distinct, but they share profound similarities. Both are methods for Congress to escape accountability by hiding its power in other institutions of government.
Escaping accountability is a popular scheme.

Michigan Union Tell-All

Review & Outlook: Michigan Union Tell-All - WSJ.com
"When Michigan became the 24th right-to-work state late last year, everyone knew unions would try to overturn or otherwise neuter the law. Less expected was that they would do so at the expense of their own members.

That's the message from a December 27-28 memo to local union presidents and board members from Michigan Education Association President Steven Cook, which recommends tactics that unions can use to dilute the impact of the right-to-work law.
One bright idea is to renegotiate contracts now to lock teachers into paying union dues after the right-to-work law goes into effect in March. Another is to sue their own members who try to leave.

"Members who indicate they wish to resign membership in March, or whenever, will be told they can only do so in August," Mr. Cook writes in the three-page memo obtained by the West Michigan Policy Forum.
"We will use any legal means at our disposal to collect the dues owed under signed membership forms from any members who withhold dues prior to terminating their membership in August for the following fiscal year."
Got that, comrade?"

LOWER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE:
Alexandria cops bust 10-year-old for bringing toy gun to school.
The boy, a fifth-grader at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School whose name is not being released, was charged as a juvenile with brandishing a weapon, police said. . . .
When the boy arrived, authorities found the toy in his backpack.
He was taken into custody, transported to a juvenile detention center for booking and then released to his parents, Hildebrandt said.
“The safety of our students is always our first concern,” Sherman said. “We appreciate the quick response and action by our police.”

Your students were always safe, because it was a toy gun.
Except they’re not safe from overweening officialdom, who can’t tell the difference between a dangerous weapon and a toy gun.
Or, more accurately, who choose to ignore the difference.
Sending your kids to public school is looking more and more like parental malpractice.

Goodbye, Prius? Japanese carmakers drop battery electric-car development - Washington Times
"Japan is backtracking on battery electric-car development, as even Nissan’s vice chairman, the so-called “father of the Prius,” announced plans to copy Toyota and pursue fuel-cell cars that convert hydrogen to electricity.
“Because of its shortcomings — driving range, cost and recharging time — the electric vehicle is not a viable replacement for most conventional cars,” said Toyota’s vice chairman, Takeshi Uchiyamada, in a Reuters report. “We need something entirely new.”"
