$25 gadget lets hackers seize control of a car

$25 gadget lets hackers seize control of a car | HITBSecNews:
"IN THE early hours of 18 June, a Mercedes coupé travelling at extremely high speed along a Los Angeles street smashed into a palm tree. It exploded into flames, killing the driver; the impact ejected the engine 50 metres clear of the car.
Was it an accident?
Or was the car hacked, allowing it to be driven off the road by remote control?
The very idea might sound crazy – but it's one that Richard Clarke, a former counterterrorism adviser to the US National Security Council, has raised after the driver was identified as Rolling Stone journalist Michael Hastings."

A Bombshell in the IRS Scandal

A Bombshell in the IRS Scandal - WSJ.com:
"The IRS scandal was connected this week not just to the Washington office—that had been established—but to the office of the chief counsel.
That is a bombshell.........
Still, what landed was a bombshell.
And Democrats know it.
Which is why they are so desperate to make the investigation go away.
They know, as Republicans do, that the chief counsel of the IRS is one of only two Obama political appointees in the entire agency."

FLOTUS’ latest ‘Let’s Move!’ project: The ‘Walking School Bus’

FLOTUS’ latest ‘Let’s Move!’ project: The ‘Walking School Bus’:
"First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative is no longer limited to the classroom — now she’s using it to take over school transportation as well.
During her remarks to a group of mayors at the White House last week, Obama promoted the concept of a “walking school bus” — a group of children who walk to school together with adults.
“I’ve heard more and more of this kind of walking school bus happening all over the country — so that kids can get exercise on the way to school, kind of like we did when we were growing up,” Obama said.
She added that a program like the “walking school bus,” which is run in cooperation with the Department of Transportation, the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center and the Partnership for a Walkable America, is exactly what “Let’s Move!” is about."

"A new report on Britain's National Health Service notes that as many as 13,000 needless deaths have occurred in 14 NHS hospital trusts since 2005.
This is no fluke. It's the result of socialized medicine, done by experts.
Britain's much vaunted public medical system, accountable for 82% of all health care spending, according to the OECD, is in shambles."

Scientist: Global warming not causing extreme weather

Scientist: Global warming not causing extreme weather | The Daily Caller:
"“It is misleading and just plain incorrect to claim that disasters associated with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods or droughts have increased on climate timescales either in the United States or globally,” Pielke said in his testimony before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “It is further incorrect to associate the increasing costs of disasters with the emission of greenhouse gases.”

“Hurricanes have not increased in the U.S. in frequency, intensity or normalized damage since at least 1900,” Pielke added. “The same holds for tropical cyclones globally since at least 1970.”"

Spain Cuts Green Energy Losses

Spain Cuts Green Energy Losses | Via Meadia:
"While environmentalists will no doubt be upset, Spain made the clear choice.
High electricity rates are an unnecessary and regressive tax on citizens and a serious drag on industry, and green energy has yet to prove itself competitive without substantial subsidies.
Spain is right to cut its losses on its costly green energy boondoggle and to refocus its limited resources on the country’s more pressing problems."

“Both of Trayvon’s suspensions during his junior year at Krop High involved crimes that could have led to his prosecution as a juvenile offender.
However, Chief Charles Hurley of the Miami-Dade School Police Department (MDSPD) in 2010 had implemented a policy that reduced the number of criiminal reports, manipulating statistics to create the appearance of a reduction in crime within the school system.”

A note from my "friend" Benjamin......

Below is an email from Benjamin Todd Jealous, President of the NAACP, who started a petition on the MoveOn website.

Dear MoveOn member,
Tonight, a jury acquitted George Zimmerman. But we are not done demanding justice for Trayvon Martin.
We're calling on the U.S. Justice Department to open a civil rights case against George Zimmerman and have launched a petition to Attorney General Eric Holder. The petition says:
The Department of Justice has closely monitored the State of Florida's prosecution of the case against George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin murder since it began. Today, with the acquittal of George Zimmerman, it is time for the Department of Justice to act.
The most fundamental of civil rights—the right to life—was violated the night George Zimmerman stalked and then took the life of Trayvon Martin. We ask that the Department of Justice file civil rights charges against Mr. Zimmerman for this egregious violation.
Please address the travesties of the tragic death of Trayvon Martin by acting today. Thank you.
Thanks!
–Benjamin Todd Jealous
This petition was created on MoveOn's online petition site, where anyone can start their own online petitions. NAACP didn't pay us to send this email—we never rent or sell the MoveOn.org list.

Do right-to-work laws bring competitive advantage?

Do right-to-work laws bring competitive advantage?:
"Right-to-work states dominate America's Top States for Business for 2013.
In fact, Colorado is the only state among America's Top 10 states without a right-to-work law.
Right-to-work proponents consider Michigan's law a major victory.
The state is, after all, the cradle of the American labor movement and the closed shop.
But right-to-work laws remain deeply divisive in Michigan and across the country.
"No one should be forced to pay tribute to a union boss in order to get or keep a job," the 58-year-old National Right to Work Committee says on its website."
