Amazon Selects Their Favorite Fake Customer Reviews

Amazon Selects Their Favorite Fake Customer Reviews - Slashdot:
"An anonymous reader writes
"Amazon's just created a new web page where they're officially acknowledging fake reviews posted by their customers — and they've even selected their own favorites . ('I was very disappointed to have my uranium confiscated at the airport.
It was a gift for my son for his birthday.
Also, I'm in prison now, so that's not good either...')
On the front page of Amazon, in big orange letters, Amazon posted 'You guys are really funny.'And then — next to a funny picture of a rubber horse head mask — Amazon's linked to a list of some of the very best satirical reviews their customers have submitted over the years, noting fondly that 'occasionally customer creativity goes off the charts in the best possible way...'""

These are hilarious!

Muskegon County Airport to add bathroom beyond checkpoint

Muskegon County Airport to add bathroom beyond checkpoint | MLive.com:
Muskegon County commissioners, meeting as the board's Transportation Committee, approved a $80,000 Michigan Department of Transportation grant contract for the airport.
The airport will come up with the required 10 percent match.
About $60,000 of the grant will go toward adding a bathroom beyond the checkpoint, said Marty Piette, the airport manager.
He said there haven’t been complaints, but comments on the lack of a bathroom.
“It’s an inconvenience because people have to be screened again if they leave the area to use the bathroom,” Piette said.
The other $20,000 will be used to refurbish the de-ice truck, he said.
Piette said there are no plans in place yet for the bathroom, but he expects the $60,000 will get him through the planning stages.

Gun Control: A Real War on Women

Gun Control: A Real War on Women:
".....gun control is a real war on women. In denying women the right to keep and bear arms, governments at all levels force them into an attic like Mrs. Herman crawled into, but without the benefit of a gun. Instead of shooting their would-be killer or attacker, they must sit behind a locked door and hope the hinges hold until the police arrive. "

Wayne County's woes keep widening

Wayne County's woes keep widening | The Detroit News:
"Worse, Ficano’s county is hurtling toward the beginnings of a state takeover, evidently the only kind of reckoning understood by clueless politicians south of Eight Mile.
Anything less is license to practice business as usual — development boondoggles (county jail, Pinnacle Race Track), expensive early retirement packages, local and federal investigations.
We’ve seen this movie before in southeast Michigan:
Wayne County’s credit ratings are tanking.
Its budget deficits are widening.
Its pension fund for county retirees is woefully underfunded.
And what passes for financial management has the attention of the Treasury Department in Lansing."

Muskegon County schools preparing for Pledge of Allegiance mandate

Muskegon County schools preparing for Pledge of Allegiance mandate | MLive.com:
"Muskegon Public Schools Superintendent Jon Felske recently ordered 400 flags to put in classrooms throughout the district. The task will keep maintenance workers busy leading up to the first day of school Sept. 3."
"When we're having billion-dollar issues about public education, does this ... make a difference in the quality of education for our students?" Felske said. "I have no problem doing it, but is that the biggest educational thing we were able to achieve last year? I'm not non-patriotic, but ...."
Mona Shores Public Schools Superintendent Dave Peden said he believes most classrooms in his district already have flags, and that the elementary students already recite the pledge. Mona Shores High School put flags in all classrooms a couple of years ago, though reciting the Pledge will be new for students there, Peden said.
Peden didn't think forcing schools to provide the Pledge was necessarily appropriate, suggesting that instead "maybe every family should say it before they leave in the morning."
"If it increases student achievement, I'm all for it. I've not been able to make that connection yet," Peden said. "If we felt it was important, we would have already been doing it. Now that we're forced to, we'll be doing it.
"But in the big scheme of things, what difference does it make?" he said. "We have so many other things to worry about.

THE RULING CLASS TAKES CARE OF ITS OWN: Corrupt former mayor right at home teaching at Harvard. “Antonio Villaraigosa, a former mayor of Los Angeles who racked up countless ethics violations and used taxpayers money to refurbish his yacht, will lecture at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government in the fall.”
A key role of the academic sector is to provide landing pads for retired/disgraced politicians, as well as holding areas for those waiting out an election cycle. Related: Politico: Hillary Clinton considering academic options. “Hillary Clinton is fielding offers from colleges and universities — including Harvard and her law school alma mater, Yale — to give her a formal academic role, a move that would give her a platform outside her family’s foundation. . . . The advantage to Clinton of an academic platform, beyond the scope of her policy interests, could be huge for someone considering a presidential run. It would provide her with a credible backdrop for speeches and events that would take her outside of a hotel ballroom or something sponsored by her family’s foundation or another outside group.”
If elected President, she’ll no doubt find a way to return the favor.
