Lawmaker Accuses Republicans of Secretly Wanting to Abort Biracial Babies - Yahoo News
Lawmaker Accuses Republicans of Secretly Wanting to Abort Biracial Babies - Yahoo News:
After Alabama lawmakers passed four antiabortion bills this week, one African American Democrat turned to an unusual form of race-baiting, telling his white Republican colleagues that they'd feel differently about the procedure if their daughters were pregnant with a black man's baby.
Wait, what?
“Ninety-nine percent of all of the white people in here are going to raise their hand that they are against abortion,” state Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, said on the floor, as recorded by AL.com. “On the other hand, 99 percent of the whites who are sitting here now, if their daughters got pregnant by the black man, they are going to make their daughter have an abortion.”
The topic turned to race soon after Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin, R–Indiana Springs, the author of one antiabortion bill, compared her legislation to Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case that desegregated public schools by ruling that separate is not equal. The 1954 ruling resulted in social tumult in Alabama and other Southern states and is believed to have helped usher in the civil rights movement.
Defiant NRA Chief Draws Line Against Washington, ‘Media Elites’: We Will Never Surrender or Submit | TheBlaze.com
“America is already in trouble. Reckless government actions have consequences. When government breaks faith with the peoples, everything is in jeopardy,” he added. “Political and media dishonesty have joined forces to misinform and deceive the American public.”
LaPierre said “political and media elites” are lying to Americans, and that the “political elites” pass laws they haven’t even read while the “media elites” defend them.
“Rather than expose government dishonesty like they used to, the media elites whitewash it all,” he said. It has gotten so bad, he added, the “IRS is now a weapon.”
Then there’s the media treatment of the NRA. “They’ve never been honest about the NRA. They hate us. The media’s intentional corruption of the truth is an abomination,” he said."

Here's What Obama Said to Putin During Their Hour-Long Phone Call - Yahoo News:
President Obama warned Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone today that his country's intervention in the Crimean Peninsula is in violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Obama urged Putin during an hour-long phone call this afternoon to embrace a diplomatic resolution "which addresses the interests of Russia, the people of Ukraine, and the international community," according to the White House.
"As a part of that resolution, the governments of Ukraine and Russia would hold direct talks, facilitated by the international community; international monitors could ensure that the rights of all Ukrainians are protected, including ethnic Russians; Russian forces would return to their bases; and the international community would work together to support the Ukrainian people as they prepare for elections in May," the White House said

Editorial: Mercy Health Muskegon's plan for $220 million center huge bet on community's future | MLive.com:
MUSKEGON, MI – The significance of Mercy Health Muskegon’s plan to invest $220 million on a new medical center for this community can’t be overstated.
The announcement was stunning last month in that the consolidated hospital system in Muskegon will forgo a phased consolidation of medical facilities and move right to a new nine-story medical center on the Mercy Campus at U.S. 31 and East Sherman Boulevard.
The move shows that Mercy Health Muskegon’s ownership, CHE Trinity Health, probably has more confidence in this community’s future than we do ourselves. Make no mistake: The Trinity decision to plan the medical center project is a huge bet on Muskegon.

A Fed Chief Admits: We’re ‘Very Worried’ About Consequences of Money Printing Policies | Video | TheBlaze.com:
"Philadelphia Federal Reserve President Charles Plosser is “very worried” about the potential for unintended consequences of the Fed’s massive quantitative easing program.
Plosser told CNBC that the U.S. was still suffering from “lasting effects” of the recession and “may never return” to its previous growth rates – and warned that policy should not bet on growth returning to previous rates, saying it could be “many, many years”.
With gross domestic product expanding at a 2.4 percent annual rate, according to the Commerce Department last Friday, Plosser said that the country was “pretty close” to its steady state growth and may never get back to where it once thought it could be. “To keep trying to think that we’re going to do that, means that we keep trying to overplay our hand in terms of policy,” he added."

C.I.A. Employees Face New Inquiry Amid Clashes on Detention Program - NYTimes.com:
"WASHINGTON — The Central Intelligence Agency’s attempt to keep secret the details of a defunct detention and interrogation program has escalated a battle between the agency and members of Congress and led to an investigation by the C.I.A.’s internal watchdog into the conduct of agency employees.
The agency’s inspector general began the inquiry partly as a response to complaints from members of Congress that C.I.A. employees were improperly monitoring the work of staff members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, according to government officials with knowledge of the investigation.
The committee has spent several years working on a voluminous report about the detention and interrogation program, and according to one official interviewed in recent days, C.I.A. officers went as far as gaining access to computer networks used by the committee to carry out its investigation."

MIAMI (AP) — With just weeks left to sign up for health care under the Affordable Care Act, Michelle Obama zeroed in on recruiting the crucial young adult demographic during a visit to a Miami community health center Wednesday.
The first lady congratulated a handful of residents who had just enrolled during an intimate event, asking one woman whether she had gotten her son to enroll.
“Tell him he could get hit by a car. It’s crazy. They don’t think about that kind of stuff,” said Obama, who moments later applauded another mother for signing herself and adult son up for insurance plans. “Did you get his friends?”

The Face Behind Bitcoin - Newsweek
The Face Behind Bitcoin - Newsweek:
Satoshi Nakamoto stands at the end of his sunbaked driveway looking timorous. And annoyed.
He's wearing a rumpled T-shirt, old blue jeans and white gym socks, without shoes, like he has left the house in a hurry. His hair is unkempt, and he has the thousand-mile stare of someone who has gone weeks without sleep.
He stands not with defiance, but with the slackness of a person who has waged battle for a long time and now faces a grave loss.
Two police officers from the Temple City, Calif., sheriff's department flank him, looking puzzled. "So, what is it you want to ask this man about?" one of them asks me. "He thinks if he talks to you he's going to get into trouble."
"I don't think he's in any trouble," I say. "I would like to ask him about Bitcoin. This man is Satoshi Nakamoto."

The sweeping revisions were unveiled by David Coleman, president of the College Board, who also is the architect of the Common Core State Standards Initiative.

“Do we want to establish a precedent where parents live in basic fear of establishing rules of the house?” Bogaard asked.
The New Jersey Star Ledger reported Bogaard’s caution to legal counsel in his initial ruling against an emergency order. House Armed Services Chairman Rejects Defense Review for First Time in History | TheBlaze.com
House Armed Services Chairman Rejects Defense Review for First Time in History | TheBlaze.com:
"“Unfortunately, the product the process produced this time has more to do with politics than policy and is of little value to decision makers. For that reason, I will require the department to rewrite and resubmit a compliant report,” House Armed Services Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) said in a scathing statement after receiving the review Tuesday.
Committee spokesman Claude Chafin confirmed to TheBlaze this was the first time a chairman has rejected the report and asked for it to be resubmitted.
“In defiance of the law, [the review] provides no insight into what a moderate-to-low risk strategy would be, is clearly budget driven, and is shortsighted. It allows the president to duck the consequences of the deep defense cuts he has advocated and leaves us all wondering what the true future costs of those cuts will be,” McKeon said.
McKeon said he will introduce legislation requiring the Defense Department to resubmit an acceptable review."

Hillary Clinton compares Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine to Adolf Hitler’s in Nazi Germany:
By Karen Robes Meeks, Long Beach Press Telegram

LONG BEACH >> Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday compared recent actions by Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Ukraine to those implemented by Adolf Hitler in the late 1930s.
Putin’s desire to protect minority Russians in Ukraine is reminiscent of Hitler’s actions to protect ethnic Germans outside Germany, she said.
Putin has been on a campaign to give Russian passports to anyone who has Russian connections, Clinton said.

"On Tuesday, the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) announced a drastic turnaround on the part of the federal government: The German Romeike family, which sought asylum in the United States to home-school their children, will now be allowed to stay in America.
“The Romeikes can stay!!!” the HSLDA announced on its Facebook page.
Just one day ago, the Romeikes thought they would be forced to return to Germany, where the state could take custody of their children because of their decision to home-school. At a minimum, they would face increasingly harsh fines for violating Germany’s compulsory attendance law."
Five Questions and Answers That Tell you Everything You Need To Know About US Response to the Ukraine Crisis | TheBlaze.com
"The question of long-term impact on U.S. national security and global stability, however, requires a more complicated if not contentious answer.
An America whose word isn’t trusted and whose influence is waning leaves the world more open to conflict. Obama’s much derided “Leading from Behind” in Libya has transformed into “observing from behind” in Eurasia.
The President of the United States – and the Commander-in-Chief of the most powerful military in history – promised grave consequences on Friday afternoon if Putin did exactly what he chose to do mere hours later with his non-lethal invasion of Crimea. Nothing happened. Such brazen slaps in the face to the world’s lone superpower are an indicator of grave troubles down the road."

“First, they can refuse to change, in which case they will eventually go out of business,” he writes.
“Second, they can shift their business to focus on offering services they have expertise in, particularly analytics, actuarial modeling, risk management, and other management services.”
Finally, the “third evolutionary path is that health insurance companies may transform themselves into integrated delivery systems.”
“So be prepared to kiss your insurance company good-bye forever,” Emanuel concludes."
